- This book is great for a beginner or bird enthusiast. It even has a section on how to build avairies. It is very thorough and the pictures are great. Much more detailed than some of the other beginner finch books.

5 comments about Encyclopedia of Cockatiels.
- Very good book. Lots of color pictures. I recommend adding it to your library.
- This book is out of date- just look at some of the pictures- and not a good book for a novice cockatiel owner keeping one bird as a companion. I suppose it is a good book for breeding, but I only want a pet. Many of the much thinner books on cockatiels available in pet stores have superior and more up to date material.
- The information in this book is out of date and in many cases, harmful to your pet if you practice any of it. This book advocates clipping only one wing to tame a bird which is dangerous in practice- it makes a bird more prone to injury when it takes flight. It also encourages misinformation about bird health; the book asserts that healthy cockatiels look healthy. In reality, sick birds do their best to hide their sicknesses because they are naturally prey animals. Other practices akin to phrenology in this book are simply invalid today. I would not recommend this for a new owner or anyone in need of practical advice for raising or caring for a cockatiel. While some of the information is correct, there is also enough misinformation to make an inexperienced owner a danger to their pets.
At least the pictures are cute, so it's not a total loss.
- It was easy to understand and everthing covered in this book was stated mater-of-factly. It had info on colors, maintenance, breeding, basic genetics, problems, courting and mating behaviours, some health issues, babies, and the cockatiel in general. This book was strongest on the subject of breeding but it lacked info on newer, more rare mutations. Over all this book is perfect for novice and experienced breeders as a sorce to refer to when questions arise. It would make a great companion to a cockatiel book that stresses more of the do's and don'ts of first time bird owning for the first time cockatiel owner.
- WE LIKED YOUR BOOK A LOT IT IS REALLY VERY HELPFULLWHILE YOU ARE RAISING BABIES COCKATIELS I SPECIALY LIKED THAT YOU TELL AT WHAT TEMPERATURE THE BABIES HAVE TO BE AND YOU TEACHED US HOW TO FEED THEM, BUT IN THE CHAPTER OF COLORS YOU SHOULD USE PHOTOGRAPHS ON COLOR AND PUT MORE COCKATIEL PHOTO THAN OTHER KINDS OF BIRDS BUT THE ALL OTHER PART OF THE BOOK IS REALLY REALLY GREAT AND I THINK IT IS INTERESTING, WELL IS GREAT THAT WE HAVE THE CHANCE TO REVIEW IT ,THANKS I AM RELLY THANKED TO YOU.

2 comments about Cocker Spaniels (Complete Pet Owner's Manual).
- It was a good book but it was too general. The book should have covered more on the different aspects of grooming, different inherited defects the cocker spaniel can have and how you can pick them at the puppy stage. I liked how it had examples of the cockers behaviour from personal experience. Overall it was a good book.
- A fantastic book brimming over with incredibly useful information. It has priceless information in it about every aspect of raising a cocker puppy whether you are raising your puppy to be a house pet or a show dog. It even tells the exact color requirements for show dogs. As a cocker spaniel owner myself, I can tell you that I refer to this book several times a day. It's a book well worth it's price!

5 comments about The Pleasures of Their Company: An Owner's Guide to Parrot Training.
- Everyone with a parrot really needs to know how to communicate and train their companion bird. It will benefit everyone concerned. This book is excellent and easy to follow. My amazon loves to put his rings on spindle, wave hello while saying hello on cue, puts quarters in piggy bank, high five, and more. I learned how to teach him these tricks through practicing the guidelines in this book.
- This book, the third by Bonnie Doane, is a must for the new parrot owner or for those who have had a parrot for many years. I found this book to be an excellent guide when I first got my new parrot. I made sure I researched every book I could when I first acquired my two-week old baby parrot, and this book was one of my favorites. I found it very helpful in the training & learning process of handling my parrot as it matured and got older. There are chapters on obedience skills and training techniques for adult parrots, as well as how to work with baby birds, speech training, and trick training. There are 12 chapters filled with helpful advice that you should definitely be aware of.
I highly recommend this book. You should check out her other two books, "My Parrot, My Friend" and "The Parrot in Health and Illness." These are excellent books for your bird-related library in my opinion.
- This is an excellent book on the behaviour and training not only of parrots, but also macaws, cockatoos, budgerigars and other members of the parrot family. I have a 3 year old Hyacynth Macaw called Gervaise who has benefited enormously from my purchase. He never ceases to amaze me with his intelligence and agility. He is building up an impressive vocabulary and can do tricks like ringing a bell and eating seeds from my bumcrack. The fun's not all Gervaise's - as the title suggests, their company really does provide the owner with a great deal of pleasure, and this book can really enhance that pleasure.
- This book is very well written and can easily be used as a reference guide as well. This book lacks only in one aspect (colour photos) of actual birds since I love to look at pictures almost as much as reading the information. I would recomend this book to anyone thinking of getting a bird or someone who already has one and is acting up a bit. I haven't adopted a bird as of yet but it's only days away. (I can't wait to get the Umbrella Cockatoo home). A really great site (except it is a little negative but very informative to future Parrot owners is http://members.citynet.net/skydiver/parrots/parrots.htm. Check it out . I looked online for two months to make sure that I was picking the right bird for our family and everything you need to know is right there or there's links to it.

2 comments about Birds Off the Perch: Therapy and Training for Your Pet Bird.
- I agree with the other reviewer, that this book provides excellent advice on how to live with a companion bird, and that the book is well written. The authors are clearly well knowledged and review all facets of the different types of birds, which should be thoroughly reviewed before you purchase: playfulness, loudness, availability, size, care requirements, and whether the types are recommended for experienced or for beginners only. One of the things I especially enjoyed is that they did not say, like many books do, that every bird is perfect for every person or situation. They gave realistic examples of some of the harder aspects of living with companion parrots and try to emphasize that it is a life decision to purchase a large parrot, because it is a lifelong responsibility. Personally my lifestyle would not allow me to have a large companion parrot anyway, but if I were considering the idea, this book would have provided a well-needed reality check.
- I got this a year after having my bird, and I wish that I had it from day one. The book offers great advice on how to live well with a compainion bird.
It is written in a straight forward manner, and even gives examples of birds that they have worked with. There is also a list of birds and what personality traits they have. This is a good book to get when making a choice to get a bird, it will help you be prepared to bring your bird home, and it will help you get the kind of bird best suited to your situation and lifestyle.

3 comments about The Parrot Companion: Caring for Parrots, Macaws, Budgies, Cockatiels and More.
- This was the first book I had bought on this subject and it was to help me make a decision on what type of bird I was going to get as a pet/companion (I had taken expert advice from a well established aviary and had whittled it down to either a Senegal or an Amazon). Whilst I found this book had a few good tips in various chapters the overall impression I was left with was very negative. I found the author sort of negative towards nearly every breed of bird featured (negative towards keeping one as a companion bird). I completely appreciate that prospective buyers need to understand the huge amount of time, patience and commitment needed to keep both bird & owner happy and I understand that was likely the author's goal but I felt that the book was nearly written to turn people off the idea of getting a bird. Fortunately it has not turned me off and I will still refer to the book for some of the advice on training/caging, etc which I do think will be useful to me.
- Responsible ownership of parrots means understanding thoroughly how to keep the bird happy and healthy - and THE PARROT COMPANION: CARING FOR PARROTS, MACAWS, BUDGIES, COCKATIELS AND MORE is the item of choice for so doing. Charts offer insights into differences between species so owners can tailor parrot choice and care, while safety tips for parrot and keeper, common behavior and physiological problems, step-by-step training, and more make for a pet owner's reference certain to receive popular attention in any lending library setting.

- This has to be one of my favourites in my collection of parrot books.
Not only is the book up to date, informative and forward thinking, it is full of information on many species it has accompanying stunning colour photo's throughout and beautiful photo's relevant to the information provided.
For people yet to choose their companion and for those of us who already have our companions the book is a beautiful asset to your library!

4 comments about Macaws Getting Started (Save Our Planet).
- A very poor book, regarding information on pet macaws. Long parts of this book deal with the classification, the various macaw species and breeding, but provides no useful information for keeping and training this bird, no info for health and poor info for their diet. The purchace of this book was a mistake of mine.
- This book is a literal translation from a very old, out-dated German text. It provides no useful information for today's companion macaw owner. It does have nice pictures. Pass on this one!
- Out of this book's 98 Pages, (including the index) 83 discuss different Macaw species and their origins. There are just 6 pages dedicated to keeping a Macaw and they are large print and filled with photos. Yes, the photos are nice and if you want to know about Macaws themselves (maybe for a book report) this is a good source. If you live with a Macaw and want a book that will provide you with practical info for daily interaction, I'm afraid this book won't help much.
- The pictures are really very nice, and all the information provided is worth.
