3 comments about Greenberg's Guide to Aurora Slot Cars.

  1. Do not buy this book to "valuate" your cars. This book is all about the history of Aurora. If you are interested in the company, the men, the circumstances, then buy this book. As far as I know it's the only book of its kind and there in lies the value. A great product (T-jets), a unique company (Aurora), an interesting history and well told. I love this book and it's worth every penny.

  2. This book has nice pictures, just not enough of them. It gives no insight into Aurora or the rationalization of the pricing valuation structure. After attending Slot Car Swap Meets for the past several years, the book is not even close to the valuation criteria used by diehard collectors. If you use this book to valuate your cars, you will invariable over value common cars, and under value the true rare ones. By the way unless the car is extremly rare, it must be in new condition (not just mint for the age), to have any true collector value at all. Mint for age cars are worthless.

  3. The work of Mr. Graham is one of the most complete works that I have read to date.

Graham begins the work with an excellent review of the beginnings of slot cars. The progression into the history of Aurora Plastics Company is a smooth and flawless transition. Graham holds no punches in this book when reviewing mistakes that Aurora made during its years. There are numerous pictures depicting almost any "Vibrator", "ThunderJet", "AFX", and large scale cars (1/32, 1/24) that Aurora produced while owned and operated primarily in the U.S.

This book also has a fair price guide in the back of the book. I think some information is outdated as far as value is concerned, but it is still a good baseline.

Overall, this book is a handy tool to identify your Aurora vehicles and to use as a collectors guide. It is well worth the money to purchase and would even make a good gift for that "slot-head" in your family.

I also recommend getting John A. Clark's book mentioned in the reference to this book. Together you couldn't ask for better information on Aurora!

2 comments about Lightship Baskets of Nantucket.

  1. I bought this book after taking classes in making lightship baskets locally, and must admit that without it I would not have been able to continue making them at home. The history of the baskets is excellent, and colored photographs of baskets as well as the island of Nantucket are numerous throughout the book. If you are at all interested in baskets, this book is a must!

  2. I took a class by Martha Two yrs. ago that was great to. It was at the MBA in Grand Rapids MI. The book is just as good if not better. The history is something I always wanted to know about . Thank You Martha for such a wonderful book . C. M. Miller Bay City MI.

5 comments about The Bentley Collection Guide 8th Edition : The reference tool for collectors of Longaberger Baskets(r).

  1. I am a Longaberger consultant and have every Bentley's Guide ever published, including an autographed first copy. It is a great help in promoting the value of our products (the fact that they appreciate, not depreciate)! It has been of great help in increasing insurance coverage, not only for myself, but also for customers. I had one customer who lost items in a fire; we used the guide for the replacement value for the insurance company. I now have customers who purchase their own Guide.

  2. This was a great book. I wish that I had the book earlier, when I first started collecting Longaberger Baskets. This is a very good reference book I will use for years to come.

  3. This is the book to use to evaluate your Longaberger collection or to help evaluate a basket before you buy. A must for any collector that trades on the secondary market! The book is divided into sections by basket type and includes an index for quick referencing. Take it along to the next basket auction you attend!

  4. The book is wonderful. Very informative, up-to-date and easy to use. Beautiful illustrations. This really is a MUST HAVE for all collectors of Longaberger baskets. Especially handy to use while bidding for Longabergers on ebay.

I would highly recommend this book. I wish someone had told me about it when I first started bidding on ebay.

  5. I RECENTLY BOUGHT A WHOLE COLLECTION OF BASKETS FROM A FRIEND WHO NEEDED MONEY....THE BENTLEY GUIDE REALLY HELP ME GIVE HER A FAIR PRICE FOR HER BASKETS.
