  1. I purchased this book expecting to get a complete listing of values for autographs of celebrities and athletes. What I got was nothing more than a reproduction of the listings that Beckett includes in its monthly publications. With the exception of about 200 prices for celebrity autographs (which is a far cry from the thousands you would find in other publications), this book has nothing that you can't get in a monthly issue of Beckett. It may have a few nice pictures, but that does not make up for its lack of content. And the prices are obscene! Is a Dean Cain sig worth more than Willie Mays? Or for that matter is Dean Cain worth more than Jack Nicholson? Where do they get their information? They spend way too much time listing prices for autograph inserts manufactured by card companies, and not enough time listing prices for REAL autographs obtained by collecters. Can I get my twenty-five bucks back?

  2. I am not being critical when I say, in retrospect I would not have purchased this book. The general info listed above doesn't really tell what you what you're buying, so I'll try to give you a bit more info here. Don't expect to learn a price estimate for your John Wayne photo here. There are about 500 Hollywood celebrity names and price estimates, but they are all living performers. The baseball section is better. There's an active player section as well as a lengthy retired section, including deceased players -- with price estimates. NO signature samples of the celebrities are included. About 150 baseball players (past and present) signature samples are included. There are football, basketball hockey boxing and other sports sections which are similar to the baseball section. There's also a lot about trading cards, but I'm no expert on how good that is. I'm not saying how good or bad this book is. I just want to help you know what you're buying.

  1. This book is exactly what I've been looking for!!? It lists the values of names I couldn't find anywhere else, as well as displaying informative data on collecting!!

  2. This book was a huge disappointment. Sure, it lists prices for thousands of autographs, but the "facsimiles" section is a joke. I highly doubt anyone is losing sleep wondering if their "Peggy Moran", "Bill Withers" or "Marjorie Ann Kent" (who?) signatures are authentic or not, yet space is wasted with these names, while more famous, more collectable ones (Garland, Astaire, etc.) are left out. And to top it off, some of these examples are captioned with glaring typos: "Michael Cain", instead of "Caine", "Kristy MacNichols", instead of "MacNichol". And this guy's an expert?

  3. The book is great in showing the values of many famous people's autographs of pictures, letters, or just signatures on index cards. The only downfall of the book is that it doesn't have any sports athletes listed in the book.

  4. Hundreds of pages listing values. I would have liked more information on each auto. Also more inforamtive chapters. And more examples.

  5. This is the best autograph price guide available! I like it because it is published by the leading autograph entity in the world! Autograph Collector magazine is great, and the publishers have been putting out the magazine for over 12 years! No one has better access to current, up-to-date data than the publisher of this book.

  1. This book tells you everything you need to know on autographs. A must buy

  2. Baker's book is the definitive work in the growing baseball autograph hobby.

It's too bad his publisher has not commissioned an update. The book is nearly ten years old and as such it's now about 25 players short and the autograph values are now just wishful thinking. Babe Ruth signatures for $495 -- I'll take a dozen!

Regardless of its age spots, if you are considering entering the hazardous world of baseball autograph collecting this book will be your core reference.

  3. Mr Baker has written the best book on baseball autographs. The book is profusely illustrated with examples of hall of fame and famous baseball players' signatures. The author is especially sensitive to aging characteristics and changes in style.

  4. This is the best book of its kind with many samples. Very knowledgable about all aspects of the subject, especially aging characteristics of signers. Would definitely purchase the next edition when it comes out.

  5. The book contains examples of most Hall of Fame baseball players autographs. As much as has been made about fraud in the hobby, it is an extremely helpful tool to research and compare before purchasing or trading for a signature!

  1. Designed completely to make you purchase goods from this pirate king of the autograph world, this book is amateu5rish and ingnorant. The author's father pioneer handbooks for tropical fish, ripped off people for their rare violins, and went to jail for income tax evasion; the son is well on his weay of following suit. All the illustrations are for sael, if you want to pay fifty times what you can buy a similar item selsewhere. His shop is in just the right place to sell Ameriucan history---Las Vegas---and his business is actually on the New York Stock Esxchange, which says more about the flaws in that institution's due dilligence, than it spoeaks to the reliability of the business. Avoid this at all cost; buy something by Rendell instead.

  1. If you are a kid and you want addresses buy this it has thousands of great address of the brightest stars.

  2. Since I bought this book, I have gotten tons of autographs through the mail! The book is organized so that not only can you find any and all addresses for celebrities you are looking for, but you run across many you would like to write to but wouldn't have thought of otherwise. I have gotten a few return to senders, but since the book comes with a "satisfaction guarantee," I e-mailed the publishers with the names of the celebrities whose addresses were outdated. I was suprised at how fast they got back to me with the updates! I would whole-heartedly recommend this book to anyone.

  3. Unless you like the idea of blowing your hard earned cash for a totally worthless, inaccurate waste of paper; and relish the idea of further wasting money for envelopes and postage to write to nonexistent or way outdated addresses, don't bother with this book. And look carefully at the other Amazon customer "reviews" of this book, and take the time to see who has written what (see the more about me entries), and lo and behold, what do you find? You'll need to decide for yourself, but it sure looks to me like the only good reviews of this book appear to be SHILL reviews (I wonder *who* wrote those?). Too bad the rating system doesn't allow negative figures or I would have rated this one minus 5 stars.

  4. I bought The Celebrity Address Handbook and Autograph Guide 2000 about a month ago, and I mail out about two or three autograph requests a week, and now I wait by my mailbox for the autographs to come in. In this short period of time, I have received autographs from Olivia Newton-John, Betty Ford, Gloria Steinem, James D. Watson (discoverer of DNA), Gray Davis, Sally Ride, Buzz Aldrin, Gary Trudeau, Sandra Day O'Conner, Harmon Killebrew, J.K. Rowling, Harrison Ford, James Garner, Angela Lansbury, and even Bill Gates!!! This book contains a wealth of information that is ESSENTIAL to any autograph collector!

  5. I have been collecting autographed pictures for over 5 years now and have a collection of over 200. I was looking forward to working on my hobby, with the aid of this book, this summer. Within a month of receiving this book I had sent out 200 requests for autographs. I am sad to say that I have received 48 of them back and am still receiving more back each week. Several addresses were wrong..no such number, no such street.., that star is not at the agency listed, some were declined, and more reasons were listed on the envelopes. The cost of the returned postage has far exceeded the cost and worth of this book. Try another to really get something worthwhile.

  1. I am really enjoying this book - it's a lot of fun to have the chance to write to my favorite sports personalities. It's nicely organized in alphabetical order and makes for an interesting guide. Nicely done!

  2. I purchased this book as a beginning collector of sports autographs. In no time, I received signed photos from Dale Earnhardt and Dale Earnhardt Jr., Richard Petty, Jeff Gordon, Joe Montana, Wayne Gretzky and Muhammad Ali. I'm still sending out a lot of requests and look forward to going to the mailbox every day! I'm really happy with the results of this book and would much rather have this guide to refer to as opposed to spending hours upon hours trying to piece this much information together myself. I think the author did a fantastic job and should be recognized for her hard work. Looking forward to future projects from this talented young lady!

  3. I bought the Sports Address book for my 14 year old son for the Holidays, and we were both greatly disppointed! I could have authored this book! 99% of the addresses are in care of teams, or in care of organizations! Anyone can find the address of a team! It must have taken this author less than 2 days to write this book! The title is deceiving! It should be titled, Sports Autographs-Care of Teams! We are trying to find a way to return this book!It was a waste of over thirty dollars. It was an insult to the true autograph collector! The author, if she had any decency, should buy this book back from us, and give it to a member of her family, as a Holiday present!

  4. All of the addresses are C/O a team or Association. You could spend 10 minutes online and get all of the addresses in this book. Very dissapointed!

  5. I purchased this book as a gift for a member of my family who primarily collects sports autographs. After receiving it, I looked through the pages and found that there are listings for so many favorites! We are really big racing fans and I was pleased to see so many addresses for drivers - this book will make a great gift for my cousin!

3 comments about The Negro Leagues Autograph Guide.

  1. I got this book because I collect autographs, but I enjoyed reading the book for the short bio written about each player. It's easy to read all about the famous Negro Leaguers, but in this book you can learn a lot about some of the lesser known, but very good players. I think this book is great for both autograph and baseball history buffs.

  2. This book was a delight to read and will be a great reference in the future. The authors did a thorough, scholarly research effort and it shows in the quality of the information in the book. Though the focus is on autographs, I felt the background on the players and other history was worth the price of the book alone. A must for autograph collectors and of great value to anyone interested in the Negro Leagues of American baseball history. Congrats to the authors on an outstanding job!

  3. The book not only gives you a run down of the players career and their history but shares with the reader the variations in the signature that transpired from playing days to reunion times. Gives a scarcity report on the autograph besides the price range value. Superb reading!!

  1. COMPARED TO ALL THE ADDRESS BOOKS I'V SEEN, "THE CELEBRITY ADDRESS HANDBOOK" IS THE MOST COMPREHENSIVE OUT THERE TODAY. I WOULD RECOMMEND THAT ANYONE WHO WANTS THE ENTIRE FIELD OF CELEBRITIES TO GET "THE CELEBRITY ADDRESS HANDBOOK."

  2. The way I see it, you can collect autographs one of three ways. You can collect through the mail, in-person or from a dealer. "The Celebrity Address Handbook" explains how to do all three. It has tons of celebrity addresses, a calendar of events for in-person collecting and a complete list of dealers in the U.S. I'm going to try all three ways!!

  3. I've seen a lot of celebrity address books and this one is the most complete. Other celebrity address books list the name alphabetically."The Celebrity Address Handbook" not only list the name alphabetically, but it groups the name and address by the category of what the celebrity is known for. I like this feature because it helps put a name to a face that I remember. "The Celebrity Address Handbook" also contains a lot of names in business, science and politics that you don't see in other celebrity address books. I give "The Celebrity Address Handbook" two thumbs up!

  4. I just received the 3rd edition of "The Celebrity Address Handbook" and I'm amazed. I was looking to take a vacation with autograph collecting on the agenda and I found it in this book. The book lists the NFL training camps and gives the scoop on how to get autographs at these camps. I'm in the planning stage now and I'm looking at how many camps I can see in the California area. Thanks to "The Celebrity Address Handbook"

  5. SINCE I STARTED USING "THE CELEBRITY ADDRESS HANDBOOK" I HAVE BEEN RECEIVING AUTOGRAPHS THROUGH THE MAIL. THE MOST NOTABLE AUTOGRAPHS I HAVE RECEIVED ARE: WILLIAM RENQUIST-SUPREME COURT CHIEF JUSTICE, GENERAL COLIN POWELL, BASEBALL HALL OF FAMER PHIL RIZZUTO AND ASTRONAUT NEIL ARMSTRONG. "THE CELEBRITY ADDRESS HANDBOOK" IS THE MOST UP-TO-DATE AND BEST REFERENCE ADDRESS BOOK I HAVE SEEN. THE HANDBOOK ALSO HAS A Q&A SECTION THAT IS USEFUL. THANKS TO "THE CELEBRITY ADDRESS HANDBOOK"

  1. Sanders are THE experts in autograph pricing and have been for years, this edition had chapters on matting and framing your collection, with web sites to get tools and materials, also a chapter on internet auctions and watching out for forgeries which are prolific on the web. If you collect autographs, this book is a must!

  2. I waited a long time for this new edition to come out and it is a whopping 700 pages but, it spends half of its content lamenting the loss of the original author who died last year and reprinting articles I have from earlier editions. The names were updated abit but the prices still seem inacurate. A disapointing end to a once prolific career for the author.
