5 comments about Collector's Guide to Early Photographs (Collectors Guide Series).
- Perfect book for the beginner in the world of early photography. Details each type of early photo, describes the process used to make it, and explains how to identify it. The author also shares tips on buying: what to look for, what's exceptional, and what to avoid. Gives prices and lots of great picture examples, and details restoration efforts that beginners can and should do, as well as what NOT to do. Loved it and would highly recommend!
- This book was great. I collect cabinet cards. They are not as collectible as other forms of photographs, and that makes it very hard to find good information. This book was very helpful. It gave me information to date them, and which one are rare, uncommon, and unusual.
- I was blessed with a box full of old photographs, including some that I called "daguerreotypes", really not knowing what they were. I still have the photos in storage, but after reading this book, and having it on hand to refer to, I feel confident that I will be able to properly identify the photos. Most of these are from the mid 19th to early 20th century and this book covers this period exactly.
- This is a marvelous book. It is chock-full of information on the various photographic processes of the early 19th century. It takes us from cased images (daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, tintypes) to photography on paper (calotypes, wet plates, albumen prints, cartes de viste, cabinet cards, sterographs) to late 19th century processes (dry plate, silver prints, platinum prints) and has a special section on US Civil War images. An exhaustive reference sure to please.
- This has it all. I've seen a read a lot of collectable type books and this is the best. It contains everything you need to know about early photographs. This doesn't just tell you the prices but explains why certain photographs are valuable and all the history too.

2 comments about The Art of Collecting Photography (General).
- If your looking for a fantastic collection of photographs, and insight into how and who collects as well as in depth descriptions on both these arts this is the book you need. Fantastically write, well presented and beautifully laid out in an easy to browse and study format.
Its a stand out, I look forward to more by Laura Noble
- If you were to choose just one book to learn on collecting photography, this one qualifies as the only reference needed. But be advised, the marketplace changes and this book doesn't substitutes being well informed on current trends.
Excellently researched and very thorough.

3 comments about New Handbook of British Pottery and Porcelain Marks.
- This is the essential book if you collect English pottery. I have found it useful as both a collector and dealer. In fact, my old hardbound copy is falling to pieces from use. I am so glad to have this paperback edition for day to day reference. Dr. Godden has tapped sources for mark information that no one else has used. Everyone copies from him.
- I have several books on pottery. This is the worst. I almost never find the marks I need to find, while the other reference books I have DO have them. I do not recommend this book!
- Geoffrey A. Godden did it again! A book highly recommended for collectors of pottery. Very informative & from a legend of marks. Plus its in a handy paperback form. If you collect, own your own shop, or write collector's books this is a must have for you! Thank you for writing this wonderful book!

2 comments about Manuscript Painting at the Court of France: The Fourteenth Century, 1310-1380.
- Great book! Wether you're looking for costuming ideas, some beautiful color pics of manuscripts or just simply beautiful art, this book is chock full of inspiration. There's a lot of informative text, but the pictures themselves make this book a perfect addition to any medievalist's library.
- The era of France's Charles V was a watershed in the art of manuscript illumination. Learning and religion were highly valued, and the court and its nobles were rich, well able to afford to patronize the best calligraphers and artists.
In this book, Francois Avril (one of the world's greatest experts on manuscript illumination, especially as practiced in France), presents an overview of the finest manuscripts which were produced for members of the Charles' court. A large number of the manuscripts represented belonged to either Charles, himself, or his younger brother, Jean, Duc de Berry (arguably the greatest book collectors of his time).
These books include a large number of books of a religious nature as well as poems, Aristotle's Ethics and books of ceremonial importance. There are forty color plates with excellent descriptions as well as a lengthy introduction which explains the history of this era's illumination.
Any person who is interested in the history or art of illumination will enjoy reading and owning this book, and will go back to it often for contemplation of some of the best illumination of the High Middle Ages
