4 comments about Schiele Drawings: 44 Works (Dover Art Library).
- This book contains some wonderful drawings, but the book itself is made of very cheap materials. The paper is somewhere between newsprint and construction paper. However, this hardly detracts from the artwork itself, as Schiele's rough sketches feel right at home on rough paper. Perhaps it's for the best. Buy it for the art, not so you'll have a beautiful book to put on the coffee table. A child might mistake it for a coloring book, and that child would be forever disturbed.
- It's a concise collection of some of his best works, spanning his career. Enjoyed having a sample from each of his styles over time, but didn't realize they were only black and white copies (my fault). So you'll have to do without the color. Overall good value, because the price is extremely low.
- This book is great for the $7 price, just let me preface with that remark. The book is also of a pretty good size.
On the downside, and this is a big one for me- There are more than just drawings in this book. Many of the works are drawings with Gouache and Watercolor, and are still printed in black and white. While all the works print up okay in black and white, with little loss as to the line work, the fact that the originals are in color makes me a little sad.
If you are interested at all in any more than the line quality of Schiele's works, get one of the more expensive collections of his works, which include color plates.
- dover art library books are a great way to get copies of master drawings...cheap. all prints are in b/w and print quailty isn't the best...but for the price they are a great unprecious alternative to the glove wearing 60$ art book.

3 comments about Sidelights, Fanlights and Transoms Stained Glass Pattern Book.
- Although this book has few color examples in it the patterns are all top notch. I like it. I will adapt some of the patterns, as I do all book patterns, into something more from my brain. This is a good idea resource book. The piece counts my make it more of intermediate use rather than for beginners.
- This is one of my favorite source books for designs. I use them in computer application so the line size and clarity are important. Like all Mr. Sibbitt's books, the image quality is high. The designs also lend themselves well to a little adjustment in width or height adjustment. Many of the designs have similar components in them allowing one to use them for matching pieces for both transoms and sidelights.
- There are a lot of clear patterns with around 50 pieces. Many Flowers and a few birds. I am looking for transom and fan light patterns that feature birds and found only one pattern in this book that I could use. However, the flower patterns have really caught my eye.

1 comments about Dore's Illustrations of the Crusades (Dover Pictorial Archives).
- Beautiful, lyrical, and sensuous images from the Crusades.I am enraprured by the scope, graphic power and compositional greatness of this largely forgotten artist. Though we may look at the politics of the Crusades differently than the Victorians, this book is sure to please any fan of 19th century art. One look at Dore and you see where Cecil B. Demille got much of his inspiration.

3 comments about I AM This Book PG: (One Show).
- Some really good ads. Nice ideas. But I was hoping it would be full of ideas you wished you had thought of. Still inspiring.
- If you plan on reading the creative in this book, you might want to invest in a Sherlock Holmes-esque magnifying glass (and maybe the hat for fun). Better yet, save your 40-some-odd bucks and pick up the Design Annual instead. Thoroughly, thoroughly disappointing edition.
- Ok, we have a bunch of advertising festivals. Some are good, some are bad. I think the One Show is the best one around. It's annual book is really good. If you are getting just one advertising book this year, pick this one.
I only wish that the dvd came with the awarded tv spots....

2 comments about Art in Europe 1700-1830 (Oxford History of Art).
- A good addition to your Art Book Library. Good analysis of art in the 18th and early 19th centuries, in conjunction with world events.
- I bought this for an art history course in college. The book has many high quality illustrations and half of them are in color. The book also features many details of the works presented in it. There are also comments about what was happening in the artists' lives when they were painting the works shown. The book also includes the political events that occured during the 18th and early 19th centuries. There is even a timeline in the back which shows what was happening in the art world and in the political world at the same time. The book focuses on the Rococo, Neo-Classical, and Romantic movements in painting and sculpture. There is no mention of architecture. This is a great book to have if you like art history.

5 comments about Forensic Art and Illustration.
- Even if you have no sculpting talent whatsoever, this book is an engrossing read and a valuable reference for any crime or mystery writer. Karen Taylor has consulted for such hit TV shows as CSI and BONES and she definitely knows what she's talking about. The text is lucid and engaging and not at all intimidating, while the photos and diagrams alone are worth the price of admission!
- This book is the ultimate reference resource on the subject written by the ultimate expert in the field. Kudos to Karen Talyor for compiling & sharing this wealth of information!
- I purchased a copy of this book when it was first published. I actually now have a second copy that is filled with notes. It is an excellent and comprehensive text on forensic art. I have been a forensic artist for over ten years. I encourage anyone in the field who has not read Karen Taylor's book to get a copy and read it thorougly. I have found that I reference it several times a year on variousl aspects of forensic art. In short this book is a must have for anyone in the forensic art field.
- As a sculptor, who often creates portrait busts, in the past I have searched for the perfect anatomy book to understand the head. When I found Taylor's Forensic Art and Illustration, I felt I had the information needed to sculpt a head. The book provides illustrations and relationships between the skull and the facial features. This book provides a three-dimensional tool for sculptors. I use it in my portrait
bust classes. I have never found any anatomy book with this much information.
- I work for the television series Forensic Files and can honestly say that I have referenced this book more times than I can even begin to count. Karen Taylor is one of the most talented and creative artists. The dedication to her craft is clearly illustrated throughout this book. This book is a must have!

2 comments about Albrecht Durer (Taschen Basic Art Series).
- I received this book in Perfect order. Lots of information in a small inexpensive book. The photos are excellent quality, thank you.
- Taschen's artist series varies, but all are certainly carefully turned out little books, filled with nicely designed formats and excelletn printing.
This book on Durer is an example of the better ones. The author begins right at what for me is the pinnacle of Durer's art - his charcoal drawing of his mother near death, a supreme work of realism, and one of the most powerful portraits in art. A wealth of material is covered without too much difficulty, rather an accomplishment, as Durer's worl is myriad and tricky to get a handle on.
Highly recommended, though Art History majors and readers up to a challenge should step up to the far more complex studies of Durer by Panofsky and, especially, the more recent one by Joseph Koerner, The Moment of Self-Portraiture in German Renaissance Art, this latter now in paperback. Koerner's book also has a fine discussion of the misunderstood and very underappreciated art of Hans Baldung Grien.

2 comments about Silver & Stone: Profiles of American Indian Jewelers.
- Having met a couple in the review, and purchased a number of their products, I found the book beautifully illustrative, and full of very engaging human interest stories.
- Profusely illustrated throughout with full color photography, "Silver + Stone: Profiles Of American Indian Jewelers" by Mark Bahti (a renowned Southwestern scholar, writer and art dealer who drew upon his many years of personal experience and professional expertise) is the story of some sixty-five Native American artisans who have created a distinctive contemporary jewelry that blends tradition and innovation in combining gemstones with the sheen of polished silver. The result is an informed and informative compendium of biographical vignettes that will lead to a broader and more appreciative recognition for the quality and artistry of contemporary Native American jewelry. "Silver + Stone" is a very highly recommended addition to personal, professional, academic, and community library Native American Cultural Studies and Native American Art reference collections and supplemental reading lists.
