3 comments about Creative Marker Techniques: In Combination With Mixed Media.

  1. The best marker technique book you can find. Very easy to follow and apply them to many different renderings. The technique shown in this book is well known to industrial designers especially Car Designers or product designers. You'll see same techniques used on beautiful Car Design Renderings from The Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA. Car designers use vellum instead of marker papers. They use both side of the vellum to create different value effect with same marker. This book will make your renderings and presentation stand out from your competition. Highly recommended for students, designers, architects and 3D artists.

  2. Well, I've searched for many, MANY, books and when I found this one I couldn't belive on it! It shows marker techniques very simple to use and step by step. But I'm still a student of architecture, so it's also good for those who already knows a little. It's woderful for those that like design! ^^

  3. As an upcoming concept designer I've been searching for a book which explaines the techniques on how to render a sketch with markers and pastels. This book shows you how to rendering different products with the same technique. Some of them do almost look as if they were a photo. It is much of a Japanese styl, but it really illustrates your idea. Actually, iF Amazon would have shown the cover you would see whats really in this book. If you like those illustrations done by industrial designers, drawn with markers and pastels on vellum, with flying perfect lines, amazing shadows, you will love this book.

BUT WAIT! The only bad thing is that it shows you how to work the SAME tachnique on a variety of objects. The technique is great, sure is, but it is one technique!

5 comments about Perspective Drawing Handbook.

  1. I was trying to draw a picture of a building with an extended cover over the driveway from a kind of different point of view and this book really helped me out. Good, understandable info on perspective drawing.

  2. Please don't buy this inaccurate text. It has at least one major flaw. The author incorrectly claims that the horizon is always at eye level. It's easy to see that's false. Walk into the Grand Canyon and you'll notice that the horizon is well above eye level.

  3. This is currently my favorite perspective book! If I listed my Top 5, it would have to be: Perspective Drawing Handbook; Perspective Made Easy; Perspective! for Comic Book Artists; Basic Perspective Drawing: A Visual Guide, 4th edition; and then Creative Perspective for Artists and Illustrators. Perspective Drawing Handbook is my favorite because it's clear, concise, slim & to the point. It's very enlightening! In my opinion, Joseph D' Amelio was a genius in his understanding of perspective & his ability to communicate this to others. Because this book is so slim, clear & reasonably priced, I would highly recommend this to anyone & *everyone* interested in learning about perspective-based drawing. Even if it doesn't become your favorite overall, it's certainly worth having in your collection, as perspective is such a difficult topic that it's really best to buy a number of books. And if you're going to buy a number of books, it would help to know which are the *best* while at the same time being reasonably priced. This is at the top of my list! Three-point perspective *is* covered here, although he mostly avoids this term and instead calls this "looking up & down". It's simplistic in its approach, but that's what great teachers are about: taking difficult concepts & making them easy to understand. The writing can be a little stiff, but this book relies mostly on visuals, which is exactly what I prefer! There really aren't that many words here, especially when compared to another book I recently reviewed: Creative Perspective for Artists and Illustrators. If you think Perspective Drawing Handbook is a bit too wordy, than you'd definitely want to stay away from Creative Perspective! Perspective Drawing Handbook: my highest recommendation!

  4. Too much text, not enough drawing. I much prefer Perspective: space and design
    by Louise Bowen Ballinger

  5. "PERSPECTIVE DRAWING HANDBOOK" by Joseph D`Amelio

Amelio really packed this book with well-illustrated covering of Perspective in Black & White. Better still, D`Amelio manages to keep text down to the bare essentials, preferring to illustrate the point rather than describe it. Fascinating. Nicely put together, and very concise at 96 pages. I really liked it.

Suggested retail at $8.95 this is a good reference, and eminently affordable. It seemed quite deserving of FIVE STARS for making an obscure subject clear to the general public with a direct, no-nonsense approach. What Stephen Rogers Peck does for anatomy, is what D'Amelio does for teaching PERSPECTIVE.

5 comments about ProENGINEER 2001 Instructor with CD ROM.

  1. I have always appreciated Kelley's books because he has been using good approach of explaining a command. At some places the explanation may seem to be not enough though, but his books make sure that the reader learns most of the things. This is a good book and is recommended to all.

  2. I bought this book because of the other Amazon reviews that said the CD has files for the Student version of Pro/E, which I have. (The CD files worked quite well with my software.) Then I bought the "instructor" version because I thought there might be more discussion, more explaination and more reasoning behind what was happening in the tutorials. Turns out, that was a bad assumption. You have to be an instructor at some "certified" or "approved" or "something" (something I never did figure out!) school to get to the instructor discussions. Average Joe Person can't get to them. Guess we couldn't have the kiddies actually taking the class somewhere (maybe where Mr. Kelley teaches) getting into all the answers! The book directs you to a web site that has "errata" as a selection, but there is absolutely nothing in the errata. Don't get the impression, like I did, since I had not yet started using the book, that the errors have all been edited out, because they haven't. Errors abound, almost all of them of small enough magnitude that the average person could figure them out and proceed. I had to skip a couple lessons or problems because the instructions were unclear or the drawings incomplete. Beginners beware. That said, the book has more good things than bad, and does a fair job of describing what needs to be done and provides an outline before you actually start. I like knowing what it is that I am about to do before they start giving me instructions to "select this, click here, enter that, click done." (I just HATE having to click "done" with my mouse. Enter - or SOMETHING from the keyboard - should work as well.) Only a couple places does it say,"Do this," then after the fact state, "but only AFTER you have done this." The way I do things, I'm usually done with the "do this" and haven't read the "only AFTER" part. The discussion about configurations is somewhat shallow, but is greater depth than the other limited exposure that I have had with Pro/E manuals. The ones directly from PTC are the worst that I have ever had the displeasure of using. This one gets a 4 because I have only used the real PTC manuals before and it is way better than those. If there weren't so many errors that Mr. Kelley and/or his editors/proofreaders would be ashamed of or if the errata really did contain the corrections, I would give it a 5. I don't recommend the "Instructor" version that is about $25 more. Because of this book I am much more confident of my Pro/E abilities and am now putting Pro/E on my resume without felling like I am stretching the truth.

  3. Best Pro/E book available. Good tutorials and exercises to review what you learn in each chapter.

  4. I've purchased approximately three other books on the subject of Pro/ENGINEER 2001 published by SDC; they can't even compare to this book. It's simple, easy to learn and follow - ideal for independent study. Well worth the money. Well done Professor Kelley!!

  5. This is an excellent Pro/E Instruction book. If you are trying to learn Pro/E and only want to buy one book, I would recommend this one. It includes a CD-ROM with all of the tutorial files, either in student or professional version (very important if you are using a student license since regular Pro/E files are unreadable).
