3 comments about Design and Layout of Foodservice Facilities.
- Great reference book. I have been in the foodservice business for years and I learned a few things from reading this book.
- As a professional health facilities planner, I was in need of a definative reference on planning institutional kitchens and cafeterias. This book is particularly informative and exceeded my expectations.
- I like the fact that this book discusses how to make the design and layout of a facility function in its favor. As I read it, it continues to remind me that a lot of thought has to be put into the environment of the facility and people within various specialties must be integrated to make everything work smoothly.

1 comments about Roomscapes: The Decorative Architecture of Renzo Mongiardino.
- The interior architecture and furnishings by this 20th century master are beyond compare by standards of lavish classical design. Mongiardino's background in architecture and stage design are evident in the projects for the rich in Europe and northeastern US. Clients are not named, but all are rich and most are titled, captains of business, acclaimed fashionistas, or leaders of international society. Although the text is in a somewhat stilted English, perhaps a translation from Italian, the drawings and photos tell the story with no detail going unstudied. Mongiardino's influence can be seen today in the work of former assistant Stephen Sills, U.S. collaborator Peter Marino, and devotee architect John Tackett. Highly recommended for those who like classical interiors with an added layer of luxurious decoration.

4 comments about Pro/engineer Solutions & Plastics Design.
- If you want to learn how to design plastic parts on Pro E this book has absolutly no interest... It shows beautiful models but figure out yourself how to create them on Pro E. Good luck!

- I am in between a novice/intermediate user level in Pro E 20. I have a small background in plastics injection molding but mostly silicone molding. This book spends most of the time explaining basic injection molding design (things like draft, runners, core/cavity). But very the discussion of these features is very basic and mostely antedotal. You could learn just about everything covered in this book in about 1 hour talking with a mold designer and probably alot more with the mold designer. If you have been commissioned to start designing molds then you will need a hell of alot more then this book offers you. The final section of the book has work excercises designing parts. But it just tells you to design some parts on Pro E, NOT how to use Pro E to design the parts. I have done several tutorials that cover general features of Pro E but was looking for something that gave some new features in Pro E and HOW tos on those features. Not in this book.
- Excellent book for people new to the design of injection molded parts. A good introductory text with an overview of some common processes used to manufacture molded plastic components. If you are new to the design of molded plastic components and are a novice or intermediate Pro/E user then this book will serve you well. Basic design considerations are presented along with techniques on how to capture them using Pro/E.

2 comments about Climate Considerations in Building and Urban Design.
- In "Climate Considerations in Building and Urban Design" based on the natural factors and environmental capacities, there are very useful techniques in terms of thermal comfort achievement and energy saving. Passive solar systems including greenhouse, solar chimney, thermal roofs and wall, with simple and clear explanation are presented in this book. This is recommended basic book and perfect reference for all students that they are studying in thermal comfort and passive solar systems in architecture.
Finally for those that like to know how to use the natural possibilities to achieve thermal comfort in building, Givoni presents a clear reference with good figures and brief explanation.
- ..that will complement Givoni's Passive Low Energy Cooling of Buildings; the MIT Solar Heat Technologies Series; Brown and DeKay's Sun, Wind & Light; Hyde and Woods' Climate Responsive Design; and Lechner's Heating, Cooling, Lighting on the sustainable design bookshelf. I rate the book four stars rather than five because of its less than careful editing: absolute temperature = F + 459.67 (no mention of Rankine, p. 113), absolute temperature = 492 + F (no reference to the freezing point of water, p. 112), 1" = 5 cm (p. 162-165), dt = finite temperature difference (p. 90), dT = finite temperature difference = "heat island intensity" (p. 281), superscripts written as multipliers (p. 281), to list just a few potential stumbling blocks for students.

2 comments about Lettering for Architects and Designers, 2nd Edition.
- This book was excellent for an interior design or architectural student. I highly recommed it!
- If you have ever wondered how architects and designers form such uniform letters, this is an essential reference. It is one of few books that focus on the beauty of written forms presented on blueprints.
Outside, the book has a simple cover. Inside, every page is filled with the author's handwriting; the letters are incredibly consistent from page to page. Although the author presents a limited variety of alphabets, she offers many pointers on how to perfect them. This is clearly a case where quality received a greater emphasis than quantity.
