1. As long as there have been architects, they have been using models to help design buildings, sell projects and instruct builders. "Modeling Messages" is a comprehensive study of the many facets architectural model making. Karen Moon starts by examing the history of the architectural model from the Renaissance to the early Twenty First Century. She moves on to such varied topics as the relationship between architect and model maker, architectural model as fine art and the changing role of high technology in the modeling process.
   
   If you are looking for a text book on how to build architectural models, this book is not for you. However, if you want to learn more about the model builder's craft and see some beautifully photographed models, this book is a must purchase. "Modeling Messages" is a high quality art book and it is one of those books that I will be reading for pleasure for many years to come. Highly recommended.

1. This book is designed as a self-study guide for both beginners and experienced practitioner who want to learn more about Process Control.
   
   A true road map to the world of process control. The book contains 17 step-by-step self study units. It also comes with a CD that includes a digital version of the full textbook.
   
   I am an Industrial Practitioner of Process Control. I have been working for more than 16 years as an Instrumentation, Automation, and Process Safety and Control Engineer for the Oil & Gas Industry. I have made extensive use of this book to prepare tutorial and training material for technician and operators.
   
   If you are looking for a more in-depth treatment of process control topics, but still oriented towards practical industrial applications, you might want to consider Bela Liptak's Instruments Engineer's Handbook Volume 2 - Process Control and Optimization. I own both books and they have proven to be a very effective combination to solve day to day problems in my job.



2. This book only provides a slight overview on system process control, if you want a detailed how to design a PID then look else where.

1. Each Chinese character looks like the pictograph that describes its meaning such as moon, sun, tree or human. When these characters combine with images in posters, they become interesting and effective messages that convey to audiences.

Peter Joel Harrison provides a valuable service to architects, designers, preservationists, landscapers and homeowners by researching, recording and presenting the details of historic homes and gardens. His books, full of accurate drawings of period fences, gates, gazebos, trellises, pavement and garden walls, are tools for anyone who's restoring an 18th or 19th century home or landscape and inspiration for anyone who hopes to infuse some of yesterday's charm into a new building. I used Brick Pavement and Fence-Walls for ideas on some new garden walls in Richmond, Virginia. They look almost as elegant as Harrison's examples from James River plantations, and seem just right for their location.



2. At first glance, the book resembles an ancient work by Palladio or other. The drawings are beautifully simple yet a bit coarse for today's standards. The book is made up mostly of patterns and elevations; text is limited to a 13-page index and a some explanations on tools and methods. Overall, the book is quite useful, but missing are the following: pictures, better diagrams, some data about the architect, etc.

   Although the format is absolutely stunning (meant to resemble an old manuscript), this book is not for everyone. It should appeal to the designer, architect or contractor.

1. I have found this text to be highly useful in explaining the purpose and content of specifications. The text provides a comprehensive and detailed overview of what should be in a specification. The only thing that might have been better was if the authors had spent more time on the technical specs and less on the EJCDC and other standard items that do not appreciably change. All in all though, this is an excellent text and well worth the price.



2. The previous reviewer obviously has not read the book that he rated so low. Harold J. Rosen is an Honorary member of The Construction Specifications Institute (CSI), an honor given to few CSI members. This book, in its first edition, predates the CSI Manual of Practice, and it has been updated over several decades.
   
   Construction Specifications Writing: Principles and Practices has been the leading textbook for teaching construction specifications at colleges and universities.
   
   The 4th edition has been superseded by an expanded and updated 5th edition, co-authored by this reviewer, that is consistent with the CSI Manual of Practice and includes more examples and resources than CSI's MOP.

1. Bill Rose has truly outdone himself in penning this text. With a conversational style, and laced with amusing anecdotes, Rose clarifies the fine points of a technically sophisticated topic: how does water interact with the built environment?
   
   This book is a must-read not only for architects, but for home inspectors, engineers, industrial hygienists, and others involved in the investigation of water damage in buildings.
