1 comments about The Professional Practice of Architectural Detailing.
- This book has some valuable information in it regarding architectural drawings. It is somewhat lacking in the fact that it is a bit dated and does not include much information about computer aided design, but this can be overlooked.

5 comments about Exercise Workbook for Beginning AutoCAD 2004 (AutoCAD Exercise Workbooks).
- The setup of the book (order of chapters etc) is good as it teaches you to draw before going in to the more complicated functions of AutoCAD it is actually ideal for teaching AutoCAD. The Workbook could have featured a few more challenging exercises though or even an additional paperback filled only with drafting/drawing exercises.
- As an abosolute beginner I would like to use this review as a forum to thank the author Cheryl R shrock for teaching me Autocad in the simplest way possible.
After being totally confused and fustrated by the woeful book 'Autocad 2004 for Dummies' you easily put me back on track with your exact step by step instructions and easily comprehended exercise tutorials.
I have just purchased your follow up book 'Advanced Autocad 2004' and look foward to a seamless progress.
- This book is geared more for the Architect than the Engineer. I would like to see more of a mechanical engineering enviornment.
- It is easy to use, great hands-on exercises, and excellent format. Using this book, I quickly learned a lot that pertained to what I needed.
- I am teaching a beginning CAD course at a local University. The school has AutoCAD 2004, so I thought I would get a book that was straight forward in its approach. This book appears to be just that. Classes haven't started yet so I don't know how it will work, however going through the book to prepare a lesson plan it looks as if it will be fine. The support files were easy to download.

5 comments about Piranesi: The Complete Etchings (Klotz).
- This is just a warning to those of you purchasing the in-print $11 version of this book, which Amazon carelessly has listed as the same as the out-of-print paperback version. The in-print version is NOT the complete etchings, and the only reason the reviews here suggest that it is is because Amazon has, as I have already said, linked the two editions, which are totally different. The in-print version is HIGHLY abridged, and is less than half as long as the older version. I was hoping the images were simply smaller, but this is indeed NOT the case. This edition has less than half the number of images as the older edition.
- A startlingly inexpensive volume even at cover price, and a fine overview of the architectural visions of this singular illustrator. The size of the pages don't allow for the fullest, most detailed reproductions of the etchings, but for what is possible the quality is very good.
- This book may have all of Piranesi's work, but the pictures are ridiculously small. I returned it the day it came in the mail.
- Despite the minimal written information, translated from Italian into both English and German, this very generous book does indeed live up to its title of The Complete Etchings. Giovanni Battista Piranesi lived and worked in the mid 18th century, dreaming of architecturally recreating Ancient Rome. Thwarted from his grandiose dreams by practical matters of living, he found a viable outlet for communicating at least his visions by means of making some of the finest etchings the printing world has known. Concepts he could not translate into edifices became grand, eloquent and very personal prints which even today influence artists and stage designers, so atmospheric and rich are the renderings. Piranesi thought on the grand scale, and these many etchings demonstrate how his sense of space, of dark interiors with penetrating shafts of light, of temples, of prisons and prisoners, and even details of architectural elements of decor could become fine art. Though the amount of information about the man as written here is minimal, I doubt that there was much more to this man's biography, so absorbed he was with markings on copper plates. But the lack of biographical data is more than compensated for in the accompanying information on the pages with each etching. This is a fine addition to the libraries of artists, printmakers, architects, and yes, Dreamers! Well worth the price.
- This book contains all the output of Piranesi, which is what accounts for its thickness. The display is almost purely visual, with only the most minimal of text. The illustrations are clear but fairly small for the most part. I use the book all the time in identifying Piranesis, and I suppose that any serious collector will want to own it. But for any further purpose it's not useful. The index, unfortunately, is totally inadequate and hard to use. The source of this problem (and it is a major one) is that the book is aiming for a readership that also includes Italian, French, and German readers, which means that text has to be minimal.

5 comments about Morphosis: Recent Works (Planet Architecture).
- This CD is a bit short of a new media experience; the content and file size is limited and low res.; I had hoped it would permit more detailed viewing than the equivalent material in book form. I also bought the Hadid CD which was several years newer, slightly better presentation and more content. Still neither gave the satisfaction of flipping pages at the coffee table or on the thrown.
- Glad that Morphosis is featured in the planet architecture series. The virtual reality panoramas really show you the power of these digital archives. I haven't got a chance to be in many of these buildings so these archives get me as close as i can get. Lots of good info and interesting interviews. Looking forward to seeing more archives on these great architects.
- I found this cd-rom to very informative of the architectural world. Morposis is a very intersting firm with very intriguing designs and projects. I look forward to seeing more of Morphosis's work.
- This is a very good cd. Any architecture student should prchase it. I would buy it again.
- Morphosis is leading the way for new architecture with innovative, fluid designs today, and what a better way to discover their works than through Planet Architecture's feature CD-Rom. It is comprehensive with plenty of exciting photos, drawings, interviews, and so much more providing you with a deeper understanding and analysis of the projects without dry reading. It includes much more interesting content than any comparative book and for a very modest price. Rather than breeze through a lacking book, the CD engages your interests as you explore and interact. Navigating through the CD is intuitively easy. It is well worth the money to get complete studies on the many dynamic projects listed. I recommend it to anyone that is considering, you will not be disappointed!

5 comments about Mastering Autodesk Architectural Desktop 2006.
- The material does not correspond with ADT 2006. As you read and start lessons, the book calls for you to push buttons that don't exist and to use commands that don't appear in the menus they say they should. It is definitely not for someone to learn from, only to refresh what one already knows.
- Very good book for the price. Definitely the buy for someone who has some autocad background. However, I did find the book to be somewhat to broad in its examples. I think the author would have done much better if he had limited his scope of example to either residential or commercial. The residential examples were not very specific and were only understood if one read the commercial examples first. Being that I only design residential, it is a great resource in describing the different tools and commands available in the program.
- My firm recently upgraded from 2002 to 2006 and it's been an ordeal. We've decided to use the project navigator's full functionallity and this book has been a wonderfull reference for the methodology behind it. I'd recommend this book to anyone doing the same.
- As usual, Paul's latest Mastering ADT book is a must-have for anyone needing to learn how to use ADT in a real-world scenario. Rather than just another useless listing of commands and features, it is a process-oriented series of tutorials that walk users through example projects with plenty of coverage of the "why" as well as the "how to". As an ADT instructor and consultant, I recommend it to all of my students and customers.
- MADT 06 is over-the-top helpful. With consistent reading and follow through of exercises, we easily moved from, "What the heck is all this stuff? -- to, "I get it, I get it, I can't live without it." We found Mr. Aubin's tools and project examples very applicable and useful to real world application. Another great advantage of reading MADT is the author's explanation of out of the box material in the software. Most draftsmen are compelled to spend weeks re-configuring the software and tools to draw like they draw. Aubin helps explain this is not necessary. He's right. The author not only clearly explains how to use this complicated software but helps us understand that it is already equipped to save us time and money without spending endless man-hours making it draw with every color, line weight, block and tool that we've used the last 20 years.
