5 comments about Exercise Workbook for Beginning Autocad 2006: With 30-day Trial Version on Cd-rom (Exercise Workbook for Beginning AutoCAD).

  1. I went back to College at the age of 62. I am working on my Building Cons-
truction Degree. I was taking two CAD courses. But the book that was being
used was 2 1/2" thick, and weighed 4 lbs. It was extremely hard to follow
and hard to learn even basic commands from. Then I found Auto Cad Pocket
Referance, by Cheryl R. Shrock. I purchased that first, it helped me finish my two CAD courses. I then purchased Auto Cad Begining. I am using
this to hone and keep my Auto Cad skills up to date. I highly recommend
this and all other works by Cheryl R. Shrock. For being easy to use, and
learn from. If you want to learn a complicated process these are the books
to use. Because they make it simple. I give it 100 STARS.

  2. I GOT AN EXCELLENT SERVICE. THE BOOK ARRIVED ON TIME. PRETTY GOOD SERVICE.

  3. so i got this book for a class but it is so self-explanitory who needs a teacher!!!!!!!

this book is great and honestly...if u want to learn auto-cad this is the book to get!!!

  4. It is a book that is well made. The CD helps understand.

  5. This is one of the best books on AutoCad I have ever used.
I thought Acad was difficult but this book made it so easy.
And it doesn't have a lot of stuff to read. Short and to the point. And it has examples and exercises.
I bought the advanced book also. It is great too.
I suggest this book for anyone new to AutoCAD.
Trust me ....it's not hard after all.

3 comments about The Graphic Designer's Guide to Better Business Writing.

  1. The Graphic Designer's Guide to Better Business Writing could've been featured in our Business Books section, but is reviewed here for its importance to art libraries with graphic designer clients. Authors experienced in the business here provide tools to excel as business communicators, a key element to the successful graphic designer's business. From the basics of writing a resume or cover letter to landing accounts and conducting client research, The Graphic Designer's Guide to Better Business Writing offers an excellent set of tips for designers at all levels of their career.

  2. As a writer and editor, I've been working with graphic designers for most of my career--and I know how crucial it is for designers to be able to communicate effectively. In a world where Instant Messaging rules (and there are no rules!), it's even harder for young people coming out of school today to grasp the importance of the written word. Yet, employers and clients still require well-crafted resumes, crisp introductory letters, and cogent proposals. This handbook provides much-needed guidance--and many excellent examples--for the young designer starting out, as well as for the more-established visual artist who wants to move ahead in the field. Although tailored to graphic designers, this guide will be invaluable to anyone (at any age) who wants to move ahead on a career path.

  3. This book has been a great addition to my reference library. In particular, I am making use of the "Revision Checklist" on page 19 when writing business letters. It forces me to look at what I have written in an objective way and has been invaluable in improving my written communications. Worth the price of the book right there for me.

I have used the chapter on "Packaging Yourself". It covers introductory letters, resume writing and interviewing in a concise, no-nonsense way. I found the information went directly to the point and I am very grateful for the guidance on etiquette.

There are enlightening tidbits throughout the book, such as the difference between active and passive writing. This book is not just for graphic designers.

2 comments about Le Modulor and Modulor 2 [ENGLISH EDITION].

  1. The books arrived well packaged and on time. The books however were a little smaller than what I anticipated since the last time I reviewed these same books was at a local library, but nevertheless I was impressed that the books did come in a compacted design. For what better way to show off the design tool called the Modulor by placeing a picture of it on it's very own jacket that comes with the books. You feel as if the whole box set is some sort of handy carpenters tape measure to carry 'round with you.The inside of the book is full of explanatory remarks about perfecting, creating and applying this human scale ruler which incorporates the practical use of what is termed the Golden Section and thereby adhereing it to his/your own building designs. For those of you who are avid Golden Ratio/Section seekers these two books are a great gift idea and a great collectors item. The books also include many letters too from his colleagues who critique and sometimes try to disprove his modular idea, that it really works.I have included pictures to show you the overall appearance of both books and its smart jacket design. Therefore I say an excellant choice and would recommend to college students, Architects, and all those versed in the Arts in general

  2. Le Corbusier had been working for some time on his Modulor system using these French decimal measurements but without much success. Then one of his collaborators, Py, said: "Isn't the height we are working with rather a French height? Have you ever noticed that in English detective novels the hero is always six feet tall?" Le Corbusier continues: " We then applied this standard. To our delight, the graduations of a new Modulor, based on a man six feet tall, translated themselves into round figures in feet and inches". (hardly surprising when you consider that this is a natural system of measure.).

  1. Perez-Gomez wrote a very important book, the research on thearchitectural representation, and its roots, is enlightning, anddisturbing, in the sense that he pushes us to rethink our reflexes of perceptions and representation of architecture.

1 comments about Building Codes Illustrated for Healthcare Facilities: A Guide to Understanding the 2006 International Building Code (Building Codes Illustrated).

  1. This book contains very little healthcare specific code information. During my first round flipping through the book, I did not manage to notice any information on healthcare code issues. Upon further inspection, I did manage to find a few healthcare related items... but nothing even close to being useful - or worth the price of the book, for that matter.

This book seems to be simply a repackaging of the book "Building Codes Illustrated," by some of the same authors - which I own as well. The table of contents for both books are nearly identical. Non of the chapters have anything healthcare related in their titles. Most of the graphics appear to be straight out of "Building Codes Illustrated" as well. The index contains more references to subjects such as "brick expansion joints," "cripple studs," and "concrete piles" than it does to anything healthcare specific. Disappointing, to say the least.

If you are looking for industry specific code information, this is NOT your book. This is an unfortunate mislabeling/retitling.

1 comments about Tall Building Structures: Analysis and Design.
