5 comments about Implementing Sap R/3 : How to Introduce a Large System into a Large Organization, 2nd Edition.

  1. This book is actually a methodology for implementing a new system, no matter which one. So, main points covered are change process issues, pitfalls in the implementation process and ways to ensure the success from a organizational point of view. So, little technical or programming stuff is supplied apart from some generic structure of SAP. If that is what your are looking for, this is a good book. Don't come here for technical/programming stuff or even for an end-user manual.

  2. Wish I had picked this up earlier in my consulting career. The last 1/2 of the text could be applied to every ERP / MRP implementation I've ever been on. The authors do a great job documenting the "people issues" that often get left out. They discuss managing change, expectation setting, training, top management support. All those diffucult , often ignored , subjective "soft" stuff, that kills the spirit of the implementation team. You probably won't like the book if you're a die hard programmer. There's little technical programming here. But that's great if you're new to SAP, and want a non technical , yet detailed discussion of the set up and data requirements. I also used it to understand where the integration points would be - tables and data types - when implementing JDE, and had to bring SAP manufacuring data over to JDE financials. Most recently, skimmed highlighted areas to prepare for an interview. If I never install SAP, it was still an excellent investment in methodology.

  3. I think this is still one of the best reference books for implementing SAP, particularly the change management aspects. The 2nd edition had many updates that should negate older, more negative comments.

  4. This book will serve well for managers who are planning to or going through their first R/3 implementation project. However, you probably would not need it any further after you have succeeded in your first project. Realistic people and organisational issues for project management are presented with limited technical detail.

  5. I enjoyed reading this book, it has an easy reading style, and I keep a copy of it on my desk to refer back too. It is a good introduction to the organizational issues that can arise when SAP R/3 is implemented in a company. If you read this book and want to know more about what the individual modules in SAP R/3 can do, I recommend getting the latest copy of "Using SAP R/3", published by QUE.

1 comments about NYSR Portfolio of Architectural & Interior Rendering.

  1. Though most of the artists in this New York professional group have websites of their own, as well as their Society site, to see samples of their work, the book is well-printed in excellent color and easy to take to meetings, stick in a briefcase and discuss with clients, or simply review when you're tired of peering into the monitor. The book itself offers a broad survey of illustration styles, useful to others in graphic arts. Also, the rendering services that are promoted here are of interest beyond the New York region, just as New York architects do work all over the world. It's a semi-annual publication that I've followed and used since it began a dozen or more years ago.

4 comments about Japan: The Art of Living : A Sourcebook of Japanese Style for the Western Home.

  1. If you are looking for examples of the zen and minimalist aspects of Japanese style, then this is the wrong book for you.

    Pluses:
Some of the pictures are interesting, and I liked many of the cultural aspects of the book.

    Minuses:
Some of the pictures reminded me of the elaborate and glitzy decor of some Westernized Asian restaurants.

    Recommendation:
If you are interested in all aspects of Japanese style, this book might interest you. Everyone else should avoid buying this book.

  2. i have thouroughy enjoyed it thank u very much it really made my day to see that other people have the same in terests as me n my colleagues

  3. Regardless if you want to have a Japanese Tea Room, a Japanese touch, or just like looking at great photographs of Interior Design, you should buy this book.

I normally don't like books which take elements from one Style, in this case Japanese, and then adapt it for Western use, but here it works very well, thanks to superb and tasteful examples. The authors are also very up-front about it, as the sub-title which does not appear on the cover is "A Sourcebook of Japanese Style for the Western Home".

In hundreds of excellent photographs we are shown in sections with such titles as: "Light and Space", "Traditional Furniture" and "Japanese Textiles" just how easy it is to give rooms and areas of your home a Japanese touch or feel. I personally like the Style very much because it is subdued, almost austere, yet elegant, and makes much use of natural materials. The book is full of really clever examples of what one can do with space, and the best part is, that for the most part it can be done without great expense. The list of sources of where to buy materials at the end of the book is unfortunately out of date. The copy of the book I have was published in 1990, but many sources should be readily available on the Internet.

Along with the excellent book "Japanese Style" by Suzanne Slesin, et.al. (at the time of writing out of print), "Japan: The Art of Living" is all you'll need to go Japanese. And lastly before I forget, the price is right.

  4. As a an architecture student and in an architecture firm working guy I found this book very helpfull. I like japanese architecture and this book has taught me a way to design interiors in japanese-western way.

2 comments about 650 Home Plans: From Cottages to Mansions.

  1. It is nice the way the houses are broken down into sections of square footage, but the vast majority have gabled roofs. I think they could have been a little more expansive for 650 designs. Gables just take up a lot of unnecessary roof real estate (in my opinion) and add cost that I would rather apply to interior things that I will see or use. Very tired of the gabled cottage, gabled Victorian, gabled mansion...

  2. What I like best about this book is the way it's organized in sections based on size (area in square feet,) from the smallest houses to the largest. It has some really interesting and unique plans as well as many more everyday ones.
