1 comments about Study Guide with Laboratory Activities - Electricity & Electronics.

  1. I did a lot of internet research, and even checked this book out from my local library, before I made my choice. I am a Master Electrician, and I needed a detailed electrical reference book for my own library. Since electronics is a part of electricity, and has a growing impact on the electrical trade, I wanted a book that combined the two. There are a lot out there. Many are overly long and detailed, others are too simplistic or youth-oriented, and some are outdated. This book was perfect. Although it is also intended for classroom use, with review questions and experiments, this wasn't something I needed. These portions are limited though, and don't detract from the book as a whole. Buy it!!

5 comments about Inside Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire (Pro/Engineer).

  1. Pretty much as advertised. This manual is helpful for the beginner, but a current user will end up finding it a bit slim on real world applications. It is not as thorough as a real user guide.

  2. I learnt Wildfire from this book and for my needs it was a godsend. It is true that the explanations are very concise; maybe too much so. That's how they manage to cover so much material in less than 500 pages. You have to think for yourself and you don't get bored. So much better than lengthy drivel. I was able to get all the functions working; albeit with some trail and error, but no time wasted. Congratulations to the authors. Am looking forward to an advanced tutorial from the same people to cover the rest (animation, autoBOM, analisis etc). OK maybe it's not for beginners. Some previous experience with solid modeling does help; although you can just get by without.

  3. How you can fill a book with nice illustrations and some serious looking text and not being able to learn out anything. This book just confuses and gives pro/E a bad rap.
If you can't do anything before buying this book you will for sure not be able after.
Refund is you're first thought after reading this book.
Buy pro/E wildfire for Designers and learn how to use the program instead!

  4. This book bites! Instructions and steps are vague.

  5. This book bites! Intructions and steps are vague.

4 comments about Pencil Sketching.

  1. I was recommended this book by an instructor and I was not disappointed. It focuses on physical sketching technique (great for beginners/people returning to sketching) and a casual but effective style that is perfect for quick landscape/plant sketches. Not intimidating at all!

  2. A great book.

So many art books give long-winded descriptions of what to do, and even how to do it, yet they fail to capture the essence of what makes a drawing good. Wang concentrates on simple elements and rules of thumb, providing a wealth of wisdom in a few words and pictures.

If you're looking for long descriptions of techniques, this is not the book for you. The author quickly notes the salient points and demonstrates with sketches.

This book has beautiful drawings and covers a variety of techniques: how to hold a pencil, line, composition, values and shading, etc. The author also leads you through how to make specific elements: landforms, trees, water, and more.

  3. 39 of the 111 pages consist of full page printed sketches, wich are beautiful. But the text, which is very rare in this book, is sometimes missing, and throughout this book very superficially. Thomas C. Wang describes one (1) pencil technique, which he is using for his sketchings, other methodes are not discussed or even mentioned. I could not recommend this book to anyone, perhaps for very beginning artist, whom are uncertainly in leading a pencil, but even then there are better books.

  4. I remember the first edition of this book from a few years ago. But this new edition is beautiful in and of itself - I flip through it often. But the real bonus was that it inspired me to sketch again - a skill that I haven't used frequently in the past ten or fifteen years. This one's a keeper because it showed me *how* to do it and then showed examples of how it was done by the expert. I've rediscovered my love of sketching.

  1. This book is a definite need in your library of AutoCAD books! The book teaches you just about everything you need to know to make great drawings on AutoCAD LT. The CD is a great help too, in that it gives you drawing files to compare. All-in-all, this is a wonderful book!

1 comments about Mastering Simulink 4 (2nd Edition).

  1. I have been using Simulink ever since it's born in early 90's. I got this book because I have "Mastering Simulink 2" from the same authors. Few years ago, Simulink official manual is poorly written in the sense that a lot of important information were left out. "Master Simulink 2" was useful then. Starting Matlab 6, MathWorks has put in a big effort to roll out its official manuals, especially on Simulink 4. Therefore, this new book has little value (no more information) on top of the existing manuals.

This book has a few nontrivial c-mex file examples that are pretty much the only useful pages I can get some benefits from. The official manual "Writing S-Function" covers a lot more detailed materials to show user how to write c-mex, Fortran-mex, Ada-mex files with Simulink, which is the essence of building any real world design applicaiton. The book did not talk about Simulink Performance Tools, which is a very useful side product to work with Simulink.

Overall, for any beginner who can not access the official MATLAB 6/Simulink 4 manuals, this book is a good choice to solve some simple "textbook" problems. But I doubt anyone can learn much from this book to accomplish serious, pratical, and real-world design applications.
