3 comments about Pro/ENGINEER 2000i² Includes Pro/NC and Pro/SHEETMETAL.
- I sure hope Mr Lamit designs Pro/E parts better than he designs books. After 8 years of higher education (no, not dim, just got 2 degrees and a Masters), this is unquestionably the most difficult-to-follow and poorly edited textbook I've ever had the displeasure of using. This is the quintessential engineer-trying-to-write-a-book book. Hardly a page goes by that isn't absolutely overwhelmed with call-out boxes, "Important Reminders!", unnecessary inset notes, diagram indication arrows flying all over the place, and general layout chaos. Pro/E is a difficult program to learn, and this book doesn't help matters. It is thorough in its coverage, but be prepared to be frustrated.
- I'm using this book about 3wks now, even though that im using a proe 2001 this book (release 2000i)still very good to use for a beginer like me. i think this book is better than any other book for proe 2001. The detail of the explanation, you can see how concern is the autor for you to learn in the right way. The cd comes with the book have a lot of information. (it is not like just a cd that they just put anything just to say that there is a cd in that book so you think it might be good to buy.) I got 3 books of proe including "proe 2001 instructor" which is a good one too, but this "Pro/ENGINEER(r) 2000i² Includes Pro/NC and Pro/SHEETMETAL
by Louis Gary Lamit ", i think is better. I'm just hope that Mr. Gary Lamit will make one for "release 2001" "SOON".....
- This book is more than a college text book. It has a lot of information that unless you know ProE, it would not be self-apparent. The author's easy to read and follow instructions allow new and middle of the road students to follow step by step samples. Personally, I use this book when teaching privately and since I teach at a local college, I would like to get it into the school's library and/or one of my classes. The only thing that may discourage people is that it is a thick book and might be too long for a 15 week semester course, but it could be used in two sessions.
Enjoy. By the way, the author and publisher are more than willing to share the teacher's models if you adopt their book as a text book. Less work for us. Cool. Additional comments: ... I have been using this book to teach mechanical engineers how to migrate to ProE from CADRA 2D. Many have adopted to the drastic change from 2D to 3D solids and have found that the more you use the book for reference the easier it gets to see future design problems and solutions. Good luck

1 comments about Using Autodesk Inventor 6.
- The reason why I bought a software book through the internet is to master the software immediately and to enhance my efficiency in doing actual work. By following the step by step exercises from the textbook and the CD that accompanied it, ¡°Using AutoDesk Inventor 6¡± allowed me to know the software in a few days. Besides being a good learning tool, this book is also a good reference because of its logical presentation. You can easily and quickly check up a command knowing its function and limitation. Even though it was written before the release of Inventor 7, which is the version I am using now, the book worked just as good for me as the difference between version 6 and 7 is so minimal. I would highly recommend this book to anyone using Inventor 6 or Inventor 7 who wants to fully explore the tools of the program.

1 comments about Blurring the Lines: Computer-Aided Design and Manufacturing in Contemporary Architecture (Architecture in Practice).
- I've recently gotten ahold of a copy of this in the UK where it's already on sale, and I can recommend it as a very good survey of the current state of affairs in computer use by architects, engineers and contractors.
It has lots of articles and case studies by practicing designers and even some builders, so it's short on pie-in-the-sky promises of computers' future revolutionization of the field and long on thoughtful, insightful descriptions of what smart people are doing with these tools now.
Some of the projects featured are not the freshest (having been featured in all the architecture magazines months or a few years ago) but the exploration of methods employed on them is still good for designers trying to better integrate digital techniques into their own practice and getting beyond just electronic drafting or making pretty renderings. Students should find it interesting, too ... I guess the illustrations and print quality help justify the price.

1 comments about Treasures of Taliesin: Seventy-Seventy Unbuilt Designs.
- "Treasures of Taliesin presents 106 drawings of 77 Frank Lloyd Wright buildings that were never built--buildings that Wright believed were his most interesting works. This revised, updated, an[d] newly designed edition includes new text from Bruce Pfeiffer, Director of Archives at The Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation. Pfeiffer draws on his long association with Wright to describe the circumstances surrounding the germination of each project, characterizes the personalities involved, and explains why the work was not completed. The stories include political intrigue and assassination, as well as providing glimpses of personalities such as Mike Todd, and Ayn Rand, and a poignant recollection of Marilyn Monroe, who wanted an entire floor of her planned home with Arthur Miller for their children. There is even a residence for a mysterious client whose identity was known only to Wright.
"In his careful selection of projects, Pfeiffer has created a visual history of Wright's accomplishments over a career that stretched from 1895 to 1959. Treasures of Taliesin ranges in scope from the minutely detailed--Wright's admonition to Franklin Watkins to "use cadmium plated screws with a electrical screwdriver" to secure the cypress siding of his studio-residence--to the uniquely extravagant: a description of the 26-foot drawing for the Mile High Building, exhibited in 1956 to the astonished world. This collection of drawings is both a feast and a fascinating overview of Frank Lloyd Wright's architectural genius.
"164 pages, 106 color reproductions, 13 x 10". Casebound book with dust jacket. ISBN: 0-7649-1041-8."--© Pomegranate
