1 comments about SAT-Based Scalable Formal Verification Solutions (Series on Integrated Circuits and Systems).

  1. This book is a good survey of SAT based Formal Verification methods. The authors are known researcher in the area and they have put together a good overview of the research they and other researchers did in this area. The book is well written and covers many interesting topics. I was hoping to see more details in the book, but like most books of this kind, big part of the value comes from the list of references cited throughout the book. The reader can use these references to dig deeper into specific topics. I had to refer to several of the cited papers on some topics; for other topics, the book was a good refresher.

I think the book will be useful for graduate students as well as to researchers.

1 comments about New Flatness : Surface Tension in Digital Architecture.

  1. After the Moderne with its dominating theme of transparency andthe postmodern with its absolute flatness of façades to whichImperiale assigns a "lack of depth", depth is brought to thesurface. The interaction between shell and contents corresponds to thecontemporary idea of our own body. Our skin being the largest organ wepossess is experienced as a mirror of the inside and is increasinglybeing regarded as a filtering membrane between the inside and theoutside. In this small book, six chapters mention and introduce allrelevant theses. After comparisons with examples from art, the secondchapter is dedicated to architectural surfaces as successors to mediawalls. Folds, theories of Deleuze and the consequences of animationsoftware have led to topological surfaces such as the Klein bottle orthe Moebius strip. The digital technologies are explained briefly butclearly, from NURBS and hybrids to liquid-crystal surfaces. The fourthchapter is dedicated to the interface between the virtual and the realworld. The concluding remarks and outlook are brief and ask questionsconcerning representation in today's architecture...

5 comments about Pro/ENGINEER Advanced Tutorial (Release 2001).

  1. I found this tutorial to be the most incomplete and confusing manual I've seen in a long time. It's pretty obvious to me that the text was not proved out by inexperienced users prior to publication nor was it proofed by the author. There is a lot of extraneous verbiage that is not germane to the information presented, as well as sections missing, not enough pictures of the menu structure layout and no index to help find commands. Also very little useful info regarding how to correct mistakes and how to continue a model after quitting out of it in the middle of the entry of information.

  2. Of the ProE books that I have used I find this one of the most frustrating. I find Toogoods methodology in this book to be fairly limited in its usefulness. The book should not be considered a self-guided tutorial. He has made the dimensioning almost unreadable and completely invisible on some parts. One must search the rest of the book to find the correct dimensions. He also leaves out sections of directions, which may be alright for a class situation, but for someone trying to teach themselves in a professional environment it eats up to much time away from productivity. It is inexcusable that this book was released in this state of being. I also think that Toogood and PTC could at least put indexes in their books. It is almost impossible to find anything quickly. This book is not to good. If PTC does not shape up and correct this type of unprofessional approach it may lose the market share it gained from Autodesk to their new Inventor program. Anyway, enough of my two cents. You would be much better off using Lamit's book. It is more complete and in-depth and it has an index!

  3. This book does an excellent job of teaching intermediate to advanced techniques. The project parts that are at the end of each chapter do an outstanding job of reinforcing the knowledge gained in the chapter, however the author assumes that you have a pretty good handle on basic techniques. In other words, not everything you need to know to complete the project is in the book, but I know I've learned more by working it out for myself then if this were simply a Pro/E cookbook.

  4. THIS IS A VERY GOOD BOOK BUT, SOME OF THE EXERCISES ARE LACKING AS FAR AS HAVING READALBE DIMS. I AM CURRENTLY TEACHING A INTRO CLASS WITH THIS BOOK AND SEVERAL PEOPLE IN THE CLASS INCLUDING MY SELF COULD NOT READ SOME OF THE DIMS FOR THE PROJECTS. MAYBE YOU SHOULD ADD A 2D VIEW WITH SOME REAL DIMS ALSO.

  5. Excellent Book, should be titled, Pro E for dummies. The step-by-step outline makes it full proof.

5 comments about AutoCAD VBA Programming Tools and Techniques : Exploiting the Power of VBA in AutoCAD 2000.

  1. This is perhaps the worst book on programming I have ever read. I am an advanced autolisp programmer hoping to learn Visual Basic for Autocad and this book claimed to be for me. Unfortunately it wastes its ink on theory and large print than just giving a lot of useful programming examples - which is the best way to learn programming in my opinion.

  2. We can't find no much help on this book. The Cd rom that came with the book was blank and I had to download the examples files on the internet.

  3. AutoCAD VBA Programming Tools and Techniques

  4. This book is certainly not for people new to VBA, even though the introduction leads one to believe that is covers the "basics" The second chapter begins with sample program and once the reader finishes that chapter, the authors assume they have taught just about all there is to know about how VBA works. I was hoping the CD would pull me out but it would not open on either win 2000 or win 98+. I learned AutoLISP out of a book in about two weeks and use it regularly but learning VBA from this book is next to impossible

  5. Once I learn how to program in VBA, I will look back on this book for reference. It is not a book to help a non-programmer like myself learn how to write code. I am breaking down and going to a local AutoCad dealership for that. Most of this book is just way over my head right now.

5 comments about Green Building Products: The GreenSpec Guide to Residential Building Materials.

  1. A must have for any green designer, builder or home owner who wants to do the right thing.

  2. this is actually a list of places that sell "green" materials- like a specialized phone book. I think most of this information is on line, and that we will need to buy things within our local area- not from the other side of the county. we returned this book.

  3. Housing is probably the second largest consumer of non-renewable resources after the automobile. This book is on building in a way that provides everything you need in a house, but doing so with a minimal impact on the earth.

The first step is building a house that is satisfactory but not so big as has become normal in the US, and designing it for energy efficiency. Well insulated houses are easier to keep warm in the winter, cool in the summer.

After the design is completed, then comes the selection of components and materials to be used in the construction of the house. That's where this book comes in. In going through the book you can find ideas that will help you in the design, but more importantly, you will find components that fall into the general rules of 'reuse/recycle.' Here is lumber recovered from older buildings, lumber made from plastic that from recycled packaging. Here are high performance appliances, insulation made from recycled components.

This book takes the form of a listing of suppliers, broken down by category. I find that by looking at these procucts, many of which I didn't even know existed, the design of the house is changed to fit.

These people have done an excellent job of research as to what's avaialble.

  4. Alex Wilson and Mark Piepkorn edit Green Building Products: The Greenspec Guide To Residential Building Materials whether you're a builder or a homeowner, learn the truth about what items are truly 'green' and which are false promises. And get the addresses, phones, and web sites to quickly locate products ranging from cork underlayment for floors to special green paints, finishes, and mechanical and lighting systems. An excellent catalog featuring the latest 'green' residential building material choices.

  5. This Book is an excellent reference for any architectural and construction library. The Book contains product information in each of the CSI 16 Divisions. The information listed is "Certifiably Green", but limited in number of manufacturers. As you may know the Green Market is rapidly expanding where new products are develop and old products are receiving the LEED Certification. As an initial guide in the new green world of residential materials, it is a must have in your Library and undoubtedly, there will be new editions out.

1 comments about Frame: The Back Issue: The Essential Guide to Frames First 50 Issues.

  1. The graphic design for this book is very original. To my surprise, instead of reprinting the articles in their original formats, the photos of the pages of magazines are taken from a distance and printed here in reduced scale. This has a couple of untimely desiring effects. One is obviously that the fonts are rather small and make it difficult to read. The other is that the pictures on the pages are all skewed as it occurs when you open a thick book, and those effects are doubled by the time you are trying to read the magazines inside a book. I am trying to like it to embrace its originality, but whenever I try to read it, the format gets into my head and makes it difficult to focus on the contents. Maybe it is supposed to take some getting used to before I like all these sexy feminine curves and the virtual experience of looking at the augmented space distortions in the images...
