2 comments about Autodesk Architectural Desktop: An Advanced Implementation Guide.

  1. This book should be used in conjunction with the Mastering Autodesk ADT 2007 or Mastering Architecture 2008 books. This is more for the person that sets the standards. If you are like me, a pretty much one man team, then this makes your understanding of ADT a lot more comprehensive. It explains a lot more of the "why" than the "Mastering books" did. My picture of the project got a lot bigger frame as I was going thru this book. It is written in such a way that you can go from the beginning to the end, as usual. But, it is also written so that you can go & look up certain areas that you have questions about, go to that part of the book & get your answer without a loss of understanding because you took it out of sequence.

I would recommend this book to any user of ADT or Architecture from intermediate & up. I also would recommend it to any CAD managers or those that want to be CAD managers. If you want to get the most complete education of ADT or Architecture you can have, get both books, the one for this review and either Mastering AutoCAD Architecture 2008 or Mastering Autodesk Architectural Desktop 2007, depending on which program you have. I would also recommend getting The Illustrated AutoCAD 2008 Quick Reference (Illustrated AutoCAD Quick Reference) or the year that matches the year of your program. It doesn't contain the ADT or Architecture commands but does a great job on the AutoCAD commnads & system variables.

  2. This is an excellent companion to Mastering Autodesk Architectural Desktop 2007 and in many cases picks up where MADD leaves off. If you are using MADD to get up & going with ADT and find yourelf thumbing the index thinking "There's got to be more detail", it is here. Detailed information and sound advice for figuring out and making sense of the whole Projects, Display, Styles and Objects systems is here.
We are a 2 seat high end residential firm. I have been using ACAD since R9 and ArchT as an architectural front end for 10 years. ADT2007 is my first go at ADT. It is definitely complex & multi-layered, but I believe that it will improve the quality & timeliness of our production. This book is an integral part of the process. It's worth it.

4 comments about Reuse Methodology Manual for System-on-a-Chip Designs.

  1. Don't spend your money on this book, there is a lot of repetive stuff in it. Also, if you already work in the field of ASIC design, you will not learn much in this book, trust me.

  2. This book pointed out many design problems that I just met before. Designer could avoid many of them by following the guidelines in this book. I think it would help me a lot in my design work. Thanks to the authors.

  3. The guidelines are not difficult to understand, and you may have the pieces here and there. But this book has a broad coverage. I got this book by luck draw at SNUG. Didn't pay attention at first until I read it. Very well organized, very accurate description of the real feelings of doing a real chip. The methodology it talks about is not limited to "reuse". I suggest the auther change the title for next edition.

  4. I really liked this book and found its rules and guidelines very useful. Many of the guidelines are common sense, but it is still very appropriate to have them codified in a single textbook. Practitioners of full-custom approaches to IC design will complain that this is an "ASIC" book. It does have some rules that folks from that background will find hard to swallow (eg, no latches, no gated clocks). But 70% of the book is still applicable to full custom design and will result in faster re-use of full custom cores. The book gets off to a fairly wooly start but becomes substantial with the RTL Coding Guidelines chapter. From then on, its really solid stuff. This is a good book for the times. With much discussion of design re-use and transferable intelectual property in the chip industry, it has all the hallmarks of becoming a 'bible' book for IC designers of all stripes.

1 comments about Architecture & Design Library: Townhouses.

  1. Ann Heuer's Townhouses is an extraordinary photographic survey of the development of the townhouse and an inspiring volume for interior design ideas and concepts for remaking any home in emulation of this vintage style. Heuer presents a diversity of facade styles, architectural details, and distinctive outdoor spaces ranging from courtyard gardens to rooftop decks. Also covered are elegant light fixtures, door knockers and nobs, oversized furniture, paint treatments, decorative iron railings and more, all adding a period theme to a redesigned interior. Profusely illustrated throughout with spectacular color photography, Townhouses is a welcome and highly recommended complement to any personal or professional interior design reference collection.

1 comments about The Los Angeles House: Decoration And Design In America's 20th Century City (California Architecture and Architects).

  1. The pictures in this book are fantastic! Unbelievable what these architects were able to accomplish. I was a little disappointed that more movie star history was not part of the book. The author did indicate if there were movie props in the homes-lots from Marie Antionette. Delores del Rio's house and Madonna's were both portrayed. The book is an easy read, however, the beautifully photographed landscapes as well as interiors are worth checking this book out.
