1 comments about Texas Log Buildings: A Folk Architecture.

  1. I was a student of Dr. Jordan's at UT Austin in his Geography of Texas class. His lectures on Texas are as good, as I have found out, as his writings. Recommend to anyone interested in the rural history of Texas

  1. Really good book! The last chapter on modernism would have been great @ the beginning of the book. Although Drew posed no real solutions to our ruined physical environments, (she does write about the "New Urbanism")Drew's treatise gives us all pause to reflect on both how we live & what we have settled for when it comes to our housing and living choices (or lack there of.) Read this & get angry & active!

  1. Ever wonder what it might have been like to live amongst New York City's upper-class of society, oh say, about a century ago? Well then, you're in luck, because this book, with its very nice pictures and well-written copy, is capable of providing just such a trip back in time!

2 comments about Architecture and Utopia.

  1. I just rediscovered this tiny little book hiding on my bookshelf and cannot resist telling everyone how fantastic it is!! The essay is a brilliant meditation on the effect utopian ideas have had on architectural production throughout history. This alone is great. But then Professor Borsi treats us to a veritable feast of utopian/architectural imagery, an excellent choice of canonical examples, (Boullee', Superstudio, etc.),with an array of little known but compelling work as well. It's so tiny it has gone completely unnoticed! But as a source of inspiration, and a valuable piece of scholarship, this book has to be brought back and celebrated as a classic.

  2. This is an excelent source for studing the relations between Utopia and Architecture. Very short but precise, this is a highly recomendable book for architecture students. Borsi's guide to understanding the wish for the perfect state, comes visualy easy with a very good selection of dreams about impossible cities from the mind of representative architects from renaisance until today. It also has a handy presentation and very good prints. I hope it can be reprinted soon, for those who could not get the first edition.
