5 comments about Mystical Dogs: Animals as Guides to Our Inner Life.

  1. Being a believer already that there is more to dogs then meets the naked eye, this book grabbed me by the heart and made me revisit each dog that has ever been in my life. I recommend this book to anyone who is open to learning about themselves and their canine friends.

  2. I bought this book two days before I found the perfect dog at the local animal shelter. I started reading and I cried over the front of the book that tells the story of the man meeting at the gates of Heaven and asking for his faithful companion to enter with him. My dog jumped on the sofa next to me and licked my tears. I haven't been the same since. I can't recommend this book enough.

  3. This book could be life-changing for those people who believe that animals have powers beyond the simple realm of their daily reality. I was most impressed with her writing, her worldly experiences and her genuineness. I actually went on her website and listened to a conference she had that had been taped. WOW. This is one dynamic human being with a heart as big as Texas. I love dogs--always have--and she captures something about them that even I hadn't given them credit for. It's definitely not an easy read, however and you must pause, put the book down and reflect on her ideas.

  4. Jean Houston is one of the most remarkable figures in Humanistic Psychology and consciousness studies of the 20th and 21st century. This book is simply luminous and a great treasure. Anybody who seeks the spiritual path and/or adores four legged friends will love this book. The pictures of Jean and her dogs are also truly wonderful. Hats off to Jean and her brilliant and loyal canine friends.

  5. Mystical Dogs: Animals As Guides To Our Inner Life by Jean Houston is about the transcendental value of animal companionship in general, and the love of dogs in particular. Indeed, our animal companions can be the starting point to a mystical gateway and an awakened consciousness. An absorbing saga of metaphysical enlightenment and abiding memories for beloved animal companions, Mystical Dogs is enthusiastically recommended reading for New Age animal lovers.

5 comments about Mostly Bob.

  1. This book had a huge impact on me and my life. I had three dogs that all left me within a year of each other. My solace was found in reading what I affectionately term as "Dog Lit" to help me remember all the wonderful times my husband and I had with what we called our "Wrecking Crew". I have also lost family members that I've been extremely close with. The book taught me that everyone and everything deserves a chance to live a better life and that it is up to us to make it happen for ourselves and each other. We can not passively sit through life waiting for something good to happen to us. We need to make it happen.

  2. I was in a bookstore. I picked it up and turned to a random page thinking it was a thing of quotes. It turns out it was merely a letter spread out across the pages, but as soon as I started reading it, I couldn't stop.

We didn't have a lot of time before the parking meter would run out, so I had to choose between putting it down and leaving it. Despite the fact that it was probably only a couple pages of text, I couldn't part with it.

It was a really beautiful story. It was worth picking up to finish it. It's worth keeping around.

Normally, I consider the length of a book when I compare it to the price, but in this case it was worth it. I would recommend you find it in a local bookstore and read it. I say it's 50/50 whether you take it with you or leave it behind when you're done, but I'm sure you'll love it.

  3. A cute, heart-warming book about "Bob", formerly known as "Red." Not much content, word-wise, but a good message about spreading unconditional love around the world. I read it under a palm tree with a little snoozing off and on, listening to the surf, just completely relaxed. I liked the book, the presentation and the thoughts. The empty pages left me lots of space to write down my own feelings and notes. I might issue it as Bob II - he was a good friend for sure...

  4. This is a really short story - I read it while in an airport book store on a layover and cried in the middle of the store. Serves me right huh! Highly recommended read but you should purchase it (and then pass it on!).

  5. Spare and touching, Mostly Bob is a eulogy to a beloved dog, whose own insistent sense of self-preservation brought him to the author's home. The simple graphic presentation is just right. For anyone who has had a much-loved animal, worth reading.

5 comments about Rescued: Saving Animals from Disaster.

  1. I loved the book until I read the part about Scott shields/bear search and rescue. It's obvious that the authors didn't do any investigation of their own. They couldn't have as all they reported regarding Scott shields the NOW INDICTED FEDERAL FELON is completely fabricated from the mouth of a known liar. If they had asked for proof they would have seen he spent only 3-4 days on scene and also would have learned that the letter head from the governor's office is NOT their letter head as the governor's office denied requesting his aid. Also shields spent very little time on the water but much more time selling his book and meeting news crews. Think about it.... what can a SAR dog do there? Find someone floating? I did SAR there and there was very little use for a k9 much less an untrained k9.
    Thomas Fletcher

  2. This is my second read of this beautiful yet gritty portrayal of how natural disasters (with major reference to Katrina) impact the lives of human-animal families. Heart-wrenching stories of pets left behind by rescued owners who were not allowed to bring them on boats, helicopters, etc. Heart-opening animal rescues, reunions and in many cases adoptions by new families.

"Rescued" is no sugar pill - it exposes the reality of the harsh fate of many animals during and after Katrina and offers real suggestions, recommendations, and insights into how to handle disasters like this in future.

Above all, this is a book about the love between animals and humans and the extraordinary lengths this love will go to in extreme and sometimes life-threatening situations . It is a must-read for any pet-owner or animal-lover.

  3. I was one of the many people the Anderson's interviewed for this book and was eager to read it when it came out. When there was not one mention of the toll of the animals and the groups who tried to save them in MS I was severely disappointed. It wasn't as important to mention WHO was there but that Mississippi's animals, their shelters and rescue groups were destroyed in the hurricane...and no one even knows that by reading this book. Overall this book was NOT a clear or true depiction of what happened in New Orleans and MS. This book was a sugar coated pandering attempt to increase sales and appease the ever almighty HSUS, who by the way left New Orleans and the Gulf Coast at the end of Sept. of 2005. The end of Sept. 2005. There are STILL many groups saving the animals of the Gulf Coast today (and as a lingering result of the devastation wrought by the hurricane)...that's right Sept. 2007.

  4. This book deals with tragedy and hope. It concerns itself with professionals in the animal control business and others who volunteered to help and who found a new calling. It concerns itself with the mundane and heroism. As well, it provides recommendations for the average pet owner in case disaster strikes.

  5. As somone who was detailed to New Orleans in the hurricane aftermath and being a huge animal lover, I found this book very valuable. After seeing so many markings on the houses for animals that didn't make it, it gave me a sense of closure knowing that there were many who were saved and people there who made the animals a priority.

The book also paints a realistic picture of the steps you need to start NOW in order to be qualified to help after the next diaster and also how to prepare your own household for disasters that find their way on YOUR doorstep.

5 comments about Rex and the City: A Memoir of a Woman, a Man, and a Dysfunctional Dog.

  1. This book is great!!!!!!!! If you love dogs you must read this book. Wonderfully written.

  2. This book is great. I read it in just a couple of days, I could barely put it down. I carried it with me everywhere I went and would sneak in a few pages every chance I got.
If you love dogs, New York City or just want a few good laughs, this book is for you. The love and humor that Rex brings into Lee and Ted's lives is heartwarming. As an owner of two rescue dogs living in a major city, I can relate to a lot of their experiences.
Rex reall showed Lee and Ted how to give and receive love.

  3. I cannot recommend this book enough! From the first page, I was immediately involved with these great characters. The book is non-stop laughs and sprinkled with endearing, heart-warming moments. I truly couldn't put it down! I was eager to see what would come to Rex and his "parents." It is simply wonderful!!!

  4. OMG this was hilarious! but also tender and loving and wise and true. This woman is a terrific prose writer, and I would definately read other books by her. This is the story about rescuing an abused dog and bringing him into a teensy apartment in a bad neighborhood in New York City! who would have thought such a tough beginning (for the dog) would have such a happy ending. bravo! viva rex!

  5. I had read excerpts of this in Bark magazine (yes I'm one of those dog nerds) and was charmed then, and after reading the entire book, remain so. The things I think I like best are, 1) its a really accurate depiction of the trials and tribulations of getting a shelter dog and that transition, 2)as well as how complicated dog ownership can be in an urban area. I mean, don't get me wrong, it's not heavy or serious, but it struck a chord in me- someone who has experienced both of those situations. It's not all sunshine and roses the first day, and no one warns you about that. But that is also where some good comedy comes from. I enjoyed this book very much and would definitely recommend it.

5 comments about Protect Your Pet: More Shocking Facts.

  1. I purchased this book before I got my 2nd Australian Shepherd puppy. I wanted to do "everything" right for her. This book has really made me think about the food my pets eat and also about their vaccinations.

I suggest that every person who owns and cares about their pets to read this book. Either you agree with what she says or you dont, but Ann (the author) does have a lot of people backing her opinions up. She has ALL of their names/contact info in the back of her book for references. You just cant doubt what she says by the way she documents herself.

I even purchased this book for Christmas gifts this year for 2 of my family members.

    BUY IT!

  2. Ann Martin is to be commended for her thorough research on pet foods, raw meat diets and vaccinations.

Several people on these reviews have criticized Martin for her stance on raw meat and bones. However, I am convinced by Martin's research that raw meat and bones are risky, and her findings on a percentage basis of what can go wrong is enough to sway me.

The most persisent claim made by raw-dieters is that dogs need to be given foods which mimic those of the wild. Puleeze. There are wolves and coyotes and now dogs. Dogs have been domesticated for thousands of years now, a home animal. They are no longer natural predators. Though evolution is slow enough to have left dogs' teeth and bone physiology intact, they are not predatory animals any longer. Being domesticated, they are dependent upon humans for their food. You send a domesticated dog out into the wild to hunt down its food and it won't do it. The instincts are not there any more. Dogs are totally dependent upon man to feed them. You can be sure that the man of the family did not share the prime cuts of a kill to a domesticated animal. When an animal was slaughtered or hunted, absolutely no part of that animal was wasted. Feathers, fur were used for bedding, clothing, trading. All the meat, organ meats, bones were used in cauldrons, smoking, seasoning, and for bone broths. One cannot think that a dog would be given precedence over its family; food was too hard to come by, too precious for preferential treatment given an animal, no matter how valuable it was to the family. Dogs, as a matter of fact, became almost exclusively pet-companion animals only in the 20th century. Prior to that, a dog was often used to guard a home or for herding, hunting. It was never sent out into the wild to get its own food. The most logical way a dog was fed was its humans' daily leftover - table scraps if you will. I believe that dogs were slopped as pigs were - given all the remains of the daily rations. It could include bits of bread, cooked grains, meat, cultured dairy, milk, eggs and their shells, vegetable remains and greens. It is highly improbable that people a long time ago cooked for or even minded the "special needs" of a dog the way people do today.
Unfortunately, even fresh food scraps have given way to kibble for dogs in the last 50-60 years, which is not even close to being nutritious.
I laud Ann Martin for taking a common sense, practical approach to pet diets. I know the way I will go: variety is the sure key here.

  3. Martin's first book, "Food Pets Die For," is extremely useful if you really want to know what you're feeding your pet with those cheap commercial dog foods and how it may affect them negatively. (Some people may _not_ want to know, although you owe it to your companion animal(s) to find out.) This book, however, was disappointing. Much of it was common sense or, at least, common knowledge for anyone who has cared for animals and made any attempt to learn anything about their health (e.g., anti-freeze is bad, chocolate is bad, onion is bad). This book was repetitive and dull. I'd strongly recommend the first book, but skip this one unless you are just getting your first companion animal and/or don't know much about everyday dangers.

  4. While this book certainly has its information pros regarding the disgusting secrets kept by commercial pet food companies, it appears to disagree with the idea that a raw food diet is healthy. I could not disagree more, and here's why... I have been working in animal nutrition as a pet chef for quite some time, dabbling in several areas of nutrition from standard commercial diets to cooked/raw food diets, and the fact is that commercial pet food is just plain harmful. Let me ask you this? Just because the grocery store sells pork rinds, does that mean they are good for you? NO! So why feed your pet anything that isn't something you yourself would EVER dream of eating? When America can pour a bowl of kibble for breakfast and come out looking and feeling the picture of health, then maybe I will change my tune. Until then, I choose to not only advise EVERYONE to feed a raw and/or cooked diet, I also feed my eight cats a total raw food diet. When I changed their diet, their world became a brighter place. No dandruff, no vomiting, no loose stool, brighter eyes, a full and sleek coat, better dental health, more restful sleep... etc. In addition, I recommend reading Anitra Fraizer's "The New Natural Cat" as well as the CatNutrition.Org website. Happy Reading!

  5. This is by far one of the best books I have ever read on the subject of pet food. Anybody who has a companion animal in their life should read this book.

Ann Martin starts off the book explaining what has led her to doing this investigation and the many years of research that led up to writing this book--and also her first book, "Food Pets Die For". From page one, Ms. Martin makes a credible argument about why people should know more about this topic. Throughout this book, Ms. Martin writes about the past 12 years of research that included interviewing different organizations and people about the topic of pet food. She goes into great detail about her different request to both the US and Canadian governments and pet food industry groups to get more information. Most of these requests end up as dead ends. From here, Ms. Martin does her own research by starting with veterinarian clinics, hospitals and kill shelters asking the simple question of "where do these euthanized animals go from here...?" When she gets that answer, she goes to that source and asks the same questions. In all cases, the trail goes to pet food and livestock food manufacturers.

I already knew the main ingredients of kibble when I borrowed this book from my library. I was more interested in learning more about the BARF (bones and raw food) diet. From the other reviews on this book, I thought that Ann Martin would provide a non-biased viewpoint on this topic--as it seems that most people are very divided on the subject of BARF diets. Even though my interest was primarily on BARF diets and even though I already knew what pet food is made from, it was good to read about one person's investigative experience that spanned over 12 years.

I also read "Food Pets Die For". Between these two books, I preferred this book because of the new information on the BARF diet, vaccinations, puppy mills and the animal fur business. I had also already done a considerable amount of research on these topics as well and I found Ms. Martin's information to be in line with everything I already knew about these industries.

Our beloved 13 year old Chihuahua, Yoda passed away about two weeks ago at UC Davis Veterinary Hospital. When deciding what to do with his remains, we discussed the options with the Hospital staff. We were given the option of letting the hospital "handle his remains". I then ask how they "handle" the remains. I was told that "Yoda would be sent to a rendering plant, where he undergoes a 'chemical process' and then sent to a landfill for burial". The hospital staff worker went on to explain that we could be assured that "...Yoda certainly would not end up as pet food, as this is an urban legend." The next day, I did a quick google search on "rendered dog landfill California". The first link that popped up was a report in PDF format from Los Angeles County. Here is the first paragraph from this report: What happens to the bodies of animals that are euthanized at County shelters? Deceased animals are picked up by D&D Disposal, also known as West Coast Rendering, located in Vernon, Calif. The remains are rendered into animal by-products. D&D processes hundreds of tons of animal carcasses, tissues and by-products that would otherwise end up in landfills. Here's a link to that report: http://animalcontrol.co.la.ca.us/html/pages/for%20the%20record/Rendering%20and%20food%20&%20Ag%20Report%20.pdf . Ironically, Ms. Martin uncovers the same facts about this company, D&D Disposal (AKA West Coast Rendering, located in Vernon, Calif.)

It frightens me that such a respected place like UC Davis Veterinary Teaching Hospital is so misinformed.

Another interesting point made in this book that I can also confirm from personal experience. Ms. Martin has found that in most cases, veterinarians acquire knowledge about animal nutrition from "nutritional information" provided by Hill's Company--a well known pet food company. During Yoda's first visit at UC Davis in October 2005, the doctor sent us home with a WHOLE CASE of Hill's canned dog food and instructed us to feed Yoda this instead of the home-cooked diet he was on.

I applaud Ann N. Martin on this very important investigative research and I appreciate that she has made this information available to anyone who is interested in knowing more about what we are feeding the furry members of their family.

5 comments about Paw & Order: Dramatic Investigations by An Animal Cop on the Beat.

  1. I remember watching Officer Tina Salaks on Animal Planet. She was on the show about the NYC ASPCA called "Animal Precinct." I liked Ms. Salaks the best because she seemed to care the most about the animals, more than the other agents.

Now she's co-penned a book, and it is a must-read. If you like animals, this book is for you. If you don't like animals, then read this book anyway and soon you'll find compassion in your heart.

  2. Years ago Tina Salaks and I worked for the same organization and I saw her dedication first-hand. This book is full of great stories from someone who has seen the best and worst of how animals are treated. A great gift for animal lovers of all ages.

  3. Incredible stories of animals in peril and those who dedicate themselves to the rescue and and care of them. A must read for those who love animals. It's an eye misting book, make sure to have a tissue handy.

  4. Great book for all animal lovers and especially those who watch the Animal Planet series about the various "animal cops" around the country. Teens and up will enjoy this book and hopefully gain some insight into what happens to animals when people don't give them proper care.

  5. What a joy to read, and to know there are dedicated people like Tina Salaks out there whose primary concern is the safety and welfare of animals.

In a cold and often heartless world, this book is a breath of fresh air. Do yourself a favor and buy it!

5 comments about For Bea: The Story of the Beagle Who Changed My Life.

  1. I just finished reading 'For Bea' and I loved it. Having a beagle of my own, Sam, I can relate to the very special nature of these dogs. Bea's story gives you hope and Von Kreisler is a credit to the human race. She and Bea were lucky to have had each other. It's a beautiful and heartwarming story, I hope many people read this book and realize how cruel and useless animal testing is.

  2. This was a true story about a beagle that began her life in a research laboratory. I have adopted two such beagles and could relate to Bea's owner. The book is well written and very moving.

  3. This book is so powerfully moving that every time I pick it up - I must have read parts of it and/or looked at the pictures dozens of times - I get weepy and feel so grateful that in this complicated world, there are still such wonderful examples of kindness and compassion. Bea will become your hero, your touchstone representing hope.

  4. If anything this story conveyed to me how there is another option for abused and rejected animals like Bea. There is the option of giving life to them. The option to not turn away from a hurting animal, because even they seek companionship, stability, and YES, even LOVE. I don't believe Bea would've ever made it past the age of five years if she wasn't found one dark night. She was a 'lab' dog and obviously very much abused. She was traumatized, but the author and her husband took the dog under their wings and after years of emotional rehabilitation, Bea learned to trust again and to enjoy her life.

It is a powerful thing to have the option of saving a life or letting a living thing die frightened, abused and alone. It is so easy to turn away and make excuses as to why you shouldn't reach out your hands to help them. But this book reminded me that we all have the power to give life just as much so as to ignore it. This book is just one precious example of a life saved. This book tells Bea's story.

  5. 'For Bea' isn't just for dog or beagle lovers (though I do like both) - but for anyone who has had an animal who was more family than pet.

It's an extremely easy and fast read. It is a little short on substance, but it gets to the heart of the matter quickly and stays on course for the most part.

5 comments about Every Night, Josephine!.

  1. Jacqueline Susann is known mostly for her "sex" books--"Valley of the Dolls", "The Love Machine" and "Once Is Not Enough". However before she wrote those she released this hilarious book about her poodle Josephine. It tells how she got a pet poodle and how her and her husband Irving grew to love it. It's a short book but very well-written (unlike most of her other novels) and very funny no matter how many times you read it. Susann missed her calling--judging by this book she could have written some great comedies. I've read it at least seven times over the years and laugh at it every time. Purportedly this was Susann's favorite book out of all the ones she wrote. It's easy to see why! Highly recommended.

  2. My Dad let me buy this book in the 60's at a used book bin ouside the Playboy Club in Boston. I was 11. This was the first book I ever bought and I was thrilled. I got it home and Mom grabbed it out of my hand and gave Dad a "look"...Jacqueline Suzanne?? I will never forget this book. And I'm buying it again because I have no idea where it is now. I think I read it about 5 times in my life. Love it. A funny story that made me want a poodle so badly my parents went nuts. They got a German Shepherd instead and I never forgave them!

  3. I read a story from Josephine to my babies, Kier Royale and Mimosa, everynight for their bedtime story. Their rapt attention never waivers as I unravel the tales of a penthouse poodles escapades in the big city. To two glamour gals from Hollywood, Josephine represents the sophisticated chic that is New York society. Sweet Dreams.

  4. what can you say about this book? jackie escaped from her novels of sex, seconals, and scandal twice, and the results were in my opinion, her best efforts: YARGO and EVERY NIGHT JOSEPHINE! this book was funny, easy to read, and reread, and just plain entertainment. ms susann never aspired to be a shakespeare or hemingway, and her delightful books should be appreciated for what they are. personally, i think its sad that her life was cut short, i would love to have seen my collection of her books growing every year as my stephen king collection currently does.

  5. Many years ago, I came across "Every Night Josephine" by adult novelist Jacqueline Susann. While I considered myself a "cat person" I couldn't help but get caught up in the lives of this adorable French poodle and her author-owner. The way the author laid out the story and related the experiences of this pampered pet as she hobnobbed with showbiz celebrities was rich in detail and description. I could actually picture the little dog chowing down on Hershey Kisses in a New York City penthouse or upstaging her mistress during a television appearance. THE END.

5 comments about The Emotional Lives of Animals: A Leading Scientist Explores Animal Joy, Sorrow, and Empathy - and Why They Matter.

  1. Any library strong in animal reference studies, will find this an intriguing coverage surveying pet emotions and how they can contribute to better understanding. From joy to sorrow, THE EMOTIONAL LIVES OF ANIMALS uses the author's 35 years of experience studying social and communication patterns of animals to survey animal empathy. Chapters draw important connections between animal emotional lives and the purpose behind animal emotions.

  2. Animals and emotions. It's a touchy subject. Most people can readily admit that most animals have primary (fight or flight) type reactions. However, opinions begin to change when researchers start discussing secondary emotions, like love, compassion, sadness, etc.

Anyone who has ever had a pet knows for a fact that their cat, dog, snake, etc has such emotions. We know for a fact that they have very distinct personalities and preferences. Yet, somehow the same people, find it difficult to believe that a chimpanzee, an elephant, a wolf, a magpie, or a fish might also be capable of something beyond primitive reactions.

The Emotional Lives of Animals gives accounts of animals displaying what would seem to be primary emotions. As one would expect, the author discusses big brained animals such as elephants, higher primates, whales, and dolphins. However, the most interesting studies look at unexpected animals such as fish to examine their capabilities.

  3. The book has some very good points. However, the author repeats his ideas many times. I got about halfway through the first chapter and lost interest. I think the book could have been condensed, considerably.

  4. I am founder of an animal rescue group in Pinehurst NC called Animal Advocates of Moore county.

I found the book to be excellent !!!!!

    Maureen Burke-Horansky

  5. Marc Bekoff has rattled more than a few cages in his long career as a cognitive ethologist, but that does not make what he has to say any less true. This book summarizes the case for recognizing the similarities we share with our non-human mammalian companions, and it does so with flair, as well as attention to scientific detail.

For scientists or simply science buffs, this book has plenty to satisfy, but it's not just for them. This book is more for the average American who has always sensed the truths of non-human emotional lives (or maybe even has not), but is curious about the science behind the facts.

I have long been fond of saying "a mammalian brain is a mammalian brain is a mammalian brain, whether it belongs to you, your cat or my horse." Marc Bekoff makes this same statement with much more clarity and deeper understanding.

This book should leave you with a greater respect for the lives of the non-humans we share this planet with, and a deeper understanding of the ways our experiences here are the same, rather than focusing on what's different. It turns out the similarities are greater than the differences!

But all the science aside, this is also a book filled with great stories of observations of scientists and laypeople alike that back up the studies. Stories like the one told by an e-mail friend of mine, who witnessed two young mice trapped, where one helped the other to recover rather than just seeking its own salvation (I wonder if humans would have had the same level of compassion!).

This book should change your life. If it doesn't then your mind must be very closed, indeed.

5 comments about Tails of Devotion: A Look at the Bond Between People and Their Pets.

  1. It's a fun book to have - a coffeetable book. I purchased it as a holiday present. I may end of keeping it and purchase another for the holidays!

  2. I just ordered this book after seeing Emily Scott Pottruck being interviewed on a local TV news program. I also ordered copies for two friends who I share a special bond with as we volunteered at the Michigan Humane Society together. I understand that some people think too much attention is given to animals when there is so much human suffering in the world. To them I would say that our pets give us unconditional love, which is a very rare gift. My 26 year old son died suddenly in June of '06 and I know I could not have made it this far without the companionship of my beloved beagle, Piccolo. She always senses my moods and is ready to give me extra cuddles whenever I need them. I think I am a kinder, stronger, and better person because of her.

  3. Tails of Devotion is more than just a coffee table book. This book does what few books on animals manage to do, which is to attempt to raise the level of human consciousness about the necessity for relationships with companion animals and the sacredness of those bonds. At a time when companion animals are still largely regarded as "property" by many, this book will add to the growing understanding of the need to treat companion animals as valued members of our extended human family.

  4. I gave this book as a gift to a friend who is a true animal lover. She absolutely fell in love with the book. Some beautiful stories of people and their love for their animals. Highly recommended!

  5. Emily Scott Pottruck brings the unique relationship that exists between pets and their people to glorious life in this beautifully written and illustrated book. 'Tails of Devotion' proves that the love which is shared between people and their pets crosses all social boundaries, and unites us all in a way that few other loves could ever accomplish.

The life-affirming story of Elizabeth, a homeless woman living in the Bay Area along with her faithful companion, Hero, alone is worth the price of this lovely book!

In addition, Emily Scott Pottruck is generously donating 100% of the proceeds from 'Tails of Devotion' to non-profit animal welfare groups! So, along with receiving this beautiful book (which you will treasure for years to come!), you will also have the wonderful feeling that comes with knowing that your purchase has enabled animal welfare organizations to continue their work to help less fortunate animals.

'Tails of Devotion' will make a wonderful gift for anyone who has ever known the joy of loving ... and being loved by ... a beloved animal companion.
