5 comments about McDonald's Collectibles: Happy Meal Toys and Memorabilia 1970 to 1997.

  1. I purchased this book in hopes of finding many of the toys that I collected when I was a child. Many of the toys I have are from the early 1980's. A cursory glance did not show many toys before 1988. Astrosniks weren't even included, and they were quite popular! I'll be searching for a book that focuses on toys from the 1980's. If you're looking for a book that has toys from the early days, this is not the book for you.

  2. This is one of the best McDonald's collectibles books I've seen! This book includes detailed color pictures, very accurate descriptions, release dates, and an estimated value for a wide variety of McDonald's figures including premuims released in the United States and Internationally. A very thorough and informative guide to McDonald's fast food toys!

  3. I love this book. I looked at this book in a bookstore. This books has all the toys from 1970 to 1997. I aslo love eating at McDonalds.

  4. Good book, although they could devote a whole volume to Grimace

  5. This book is for all, not just those who collect McDonald's memorabilia. My son loves to look at all the pictures and it is excellent to see all the different sets of toys, cause you can never usually get all the happy meal toys of a series. I highly recommend it!!!

1 comments about Hippie Artifacts: Mind-blowing Stuff to Collect (Schiffer Book for Collectors).

  1. This is a well presented historical collection of the 60's counterculture revolution in terms of the "artifacts" that have been collected for many years by this forward thinking individual.

For anyone who has lived through the Sixties this book will bring back memories of the era with all the background information that is presented.

Any of the younger generation that have interest in this unique era of social change and want to know what it was all about, this book imparts a true feel for the times, thanks to the author--who lived it.

The photos are well presented, the book is organized into different categories of collecting, and I recommend reading it if only just for the comprehensive info of an important but little researched subject.

2 comments about Interviews with Icons.

  1. "Icons" is the real thing. It is filled with lively interviews of the people who helped make the Sixties such a driving force in American culture for years to come. This is one of those books that grows more relavent with age. Reading through the inerviews we are reminded that the Sixties were more than sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll. They also were a time when people felt compelled to try new things; search for new answers; find a new paradigm for living. The old answers weren't working. Much like today, rumbles were beginning to be heard: This is not the dream we have for ourselves and our country. Reading this book is a chance to look back and see how much the Sixties did matter and what changes those years made and keep on making in our lives today. To wit: The World Wide Web and living green. Back to the Earth movement? We're still on our way. Experience the first seeds in "Icons."

  2. Interviews with Icons-Flashing on the Sixties allowed me to find out the intimate thoughts of the people interviewed. I knew that Dennis Hopper was such an accomplished photographer but didn't know that he went on the Selma, Alabama civil rights march. Ginsberg is such an insightful and peaceful person. Leary was a real card, a comedian for sure and Viola Spolin had her fingers on the pulse of what really made the sixties click. The Vietnam vet spoke for all the casualties of that war. I cried when I read what he said. Peter Coyote is so famous now and he can thank Flashing on The Sixties for allowing him to speak out about his peers and their role in changing the face of America. I could go on forever but pick up a copy and see for yourself and if you are studying the sixties, it is a must.

2 comments about My Little Red Wagon: Radio Flyer Memories.

  1. This is a sweet book - no other word for it - that is bound to be a conversation-starter. What a great gift book! The illustrations are wonderful, and it is full of warm and wonderful recollections. Too bad it didn't tell about the Pasins' giant red American Flyer wagon - two stories high - that appears at Navy Pier in Chicago each September as a part of the Great American Wagon Pull, a child abuse prevention fun walk on behalf of Parents Care & Share of Illinois.

  2. My Little Red Wagon celebrates the eightieth anniversary of the Radio Flyer Company, makers of the little red 'radio flyer' wagon which has attracted and entertained children for decades. Here owners of the wagons share stories and photos of their wagons, providing a lively survey of Radio Flyer experiences and lore.

2 comments about The American Drive-In Restaurant (Motorbooks Classic).

  1. A wonderfully nostalgic look at pop culture of the 20th century, this is as much a social history book of the 1930's through the early 1970's as it is a history of Drive In restaurants. Jammed pack in this 187 page "psuedo tome" is the history of fast food and how it evolved into what it's become today, as well as teen culture of the era, and how the automobile turned America into a mobile society and society's response.
Car hops (sometimes on roller skates), neon signs, original menus, advertisements...the author gives the reader the sense of being there, back in the 1940's, 50's, or 60's, cruising along in your car to the local hang out, and there were plenty throughout our great country: Sal's Hotdog Heaven, Blackie's Drive In, Pig Stand, Steak and Shake, Igloo, Chicken In The Rough, The Varsity, and so many more.
Mr. Witzel also gives us the histories of the many well-known fast food restaurants still in existance today, all who had their beginnings as Drive Ins: A & W, McDonalds, Bob's Big Boy, White Castle, and even the infamous Mel's Drive in from American Grafitti.
The photographs alone are worth the money, and there are hundreds of pictures throughout.
I guess if I had one complaint it would be that every time I look at this book I end up dragging the family out to our local drive in (Eddy's Drive In located in Harrison Township, Michigan - girls on roller skates, classic cars, and all!).

  2. This book blends words and photography to take readers back to more relaxed days of the early to late 20th Century. The pictures alone are worth the price. It is apparent how much time, research, and effort Michael Karl Witzel contributed into the making of this book. I highly recommend it- especially for baby boomers and older, or someone who just wishes to visit a regrettably lost era of American history.
