5 comments about The She-Ra Collector's Inventory: An Unofficial Illustrated Guide to All Princess of Power Toys and Accessories (Includes Price Guide).
- I've noticed that a few people have said the book is worth reading but the price is steep. In my comparison shopping, I found the publisher on Ebay selling the book for $16.99 (plus shipping). Just thought I'd mention that here...I don't quit 'til I've found the best price and it's not always at Amazon.
- This 57 page paperback edition of She-ra toys is well worth the pricey tag that comes along with it-- at first i was disappointed with the amount of pages for a $30dollar book- BUT almost every single page is colored-and there are excellent pictures of every She-ra MOTU character including crystal castle and the extra outfits and comic books.
Each of the characters has a page dedicated to them- in color- and a SMALL description of each; including what makes them more valuable and variations between year releases. Then there is a box to the right of the picture with a average price for a NIP (new in package), complete (with accessories etc), and loose (the figurine without all clothes/swords/etc). At the end of the book is one page dedicated to the Horde characters (minus Cat-ra & Entrapta who each had their own page). There are not prices for the Horde characters.
Some of the action figures are missing their accesories in the pictures but overall they are complete- a couple of them shown are NIP as well.
DePino also provides a concise introduction worthy of a standing ovation. I loved this guide and read it from front to back. I would recommened the book to She-ra collectors as well as Children/Teens of the 80s who had anything to do with these characters- a nice item to have and read.
- What an awesome book! Hillary DePiano has compiled an unbelievably thorough inventory of all the Princess of Power toys and related accessories that were released in conjunction with the She-Ra cartoon. "The She-Ra Collector's Inventory" features an introduction that summarizes the creation of the He-Man and She-Ra toy lines and cartoons. There is a page devoted to every She-Ra action figure that was ever released. In addition to photos of each action figure, DePiano also gives a brief description of each character and the special features of each toy (mobility, accessories, collector's pricing guide, etc.). There are also photos and descriptions of She-Ra playsets, books, fashion accessories, and other Princess of Power merchandise.
This is an amazing book for anyone who is a serious She-Ra fan. I was a huge fan of the She-Ra cartoon when I was a child and I owned many of the different action figures and toys that are featured in this book. Sadly, most of those toys were lost or thrown out a long time ago, but now I can pick up this book and fondly remember all the fun my sister and I had playing with our She-Ra and Glimmer action figures and the Crystal Castle and Crystal Falls playsets. Those are some of the best memories of my childhood, and now they're all available in this fabulous little book!
Some people have complained that this book is too pricey. I think die-hard She-Ra fans will gladly shell out the money for a book as awesome as this! The only disappointment I had is that the book is almost more like a pamphlet because the cover is so flimsy. Maybe DePiano will consider releasing a hardcover edition that includes info on all the She-Ra DVDs that are in the process of being released.
If you loved She-Ra as a child, you really need to buy this book. It's the next best thing to owning every single She-Ra action figure that ever existed...and how many people actually have all that stuff?! NONE! Buy this book...you'll be so glad you did!
- This is the ideal book for collecting or selling She-Ra action figures. It is very complete and full of very interesting informations. Hilary made a great work with this book. The price guide is very close to reality. You won't find best book on this topic. So you will not regret buying it.
Enjoy !
- I have been looking for a guide such as this for some time now as She-Ra is my favourite toy from my childhood. Just browsing through the book brought all the memories flooding back. The pictures are fantastic and the listing of all the action figures, accessories and playsets would be very helpful to the collector. There is also a fab introduction and notes on other dolls such as Golden Girl and He-Man. The seller delivered really quickly for an international sale too, and was very friendly in all communication. Well worth the money!

2 comments about Cabin Collectibles.
- For more than two decades I have been involved in designing and decorating both residences and commercial facilities in the rustic style. I have lectured around the country in front of many different types of architectural and design organizations, written dozens of articles, several books and my home has appeared many times in magazines such as Country Living and others.
On a daily basis people from all around the country call me asking for basic information on both rustic accessories and rustic furnishings of all sorts. In an attempt to answer many of the questions I proposed to one of my publishers, Gibbs Smith of Layton, Utah, that I do a small, inexpensive book that addressed many of the very basic questions people often ask about rustic collectibles. So in the fall of 2000 we can out with CABIN COLLECTIBLES. Designed to answer basic questions about only a few of many items often used to decorate rustic settings the book has been very well received from the public as well as from professional reviewers including: "Love this Book!" Beth Anderson, Log Home Illustrated "A fascinating book!" Anne Gilbert, Charlotte Observer "An entertaining book that won't break the bank!" Francis Hines, Albany Times Union "Great looking displays...tons of information about rustic collectibles!" Julie Gassman, Country Decorator The book sold out of its first edition immediately and was reprinted to meet a growing demand. I have been discussing with my publisher the possibility of Volume Two of Cabin Collectibles to offer further information on many of the other items that are often used to decorate rustic settings. At this time, however, I am completing two other large books on RUSTIC SETTINGS. One book will be out in August of 2002 and the other will be on the market a year later. Hopefully, a few years down the line Volume II of Cabin Collectibles will also be on the market. Please feel to contact me at ralphkylloe.com.
- If you are interested in the rustic or Adirondack style, you are no doubt already familiar with Ralph Kylloe, the author of several fine books related to this style. "Cabin Collectibles," Kylloe's latest offering, purports to offer "a broad overview of antique cabin collectibles." The photographs, taken by Kylloe, are beautiful, though many of the scenes depicted appeared previously in another of his books, "Rustic Style." The text, however, is disappointing. A chapter on canoes and paddles reads like a high school sophomore's report on the evolution of canoes in North America. Statements like: "The teardrop shapes of canoe paddles and the graceful, sensual, sweeping lines of canoes carry emotional overtones," and "Men's snowshoes tended to be larger than women's. Small snowshoes were also made for children," offer little insight to the would-be collector. Insipid statements like, "Human beings have an incredible propensity to collect things," regularly appear in the text and then, annoyingly, again as captions for photographs. While Kylloe offers a few gratuitous remarks on collecting, "You don't have to have 10,000 twig stands to fill every last corner of your house...," one could realistically expect something a bit more helpful from a person who boasts of collecting in less than two months "more than 350 pairs of antique skis and poles, 350 pairs of antique snowshoes, 200 fishing creels, 250 antique sleds, 200 antique camp signs, hundreds of old bamboo fly rods, and more rustic stuff than I can remember." The book's greatest shortcoming is its failure even to mention so many wonderful cabin collectibles: mounted birds and fish, paintings and prints of rural scenes and nature, camp blankets, fishing reels and rods, souvenir pennants, balsam pillows, and indian busts, to name but a few. While some of these items appear in the photographs, they are not mentioned in the text. If you are thinking about purchasing this book, don't. Get a better return for your money with "Adirondack Style, Cabin Fever, Inside Log Homes," or even Kylloe's "Rustic Style." Any one of these books offers better ideas on cabin collectibles.

5 comments about Dimaggio.
- Joe Dimaggio was a pompous jerk, who mandated that had to be call when he was introduced at the "stadium." He also had to be the "last" person to enter, and therefore have the most attention, where ever he went too. His brother Dom had more class in his baby finger than Joe. There is no doubt that Joe was a great ball player and very well could be the greatest to ever play the game, but he destroyed, in my opinion his greatness, with his own narcissism. Setting the record strait never does.
- Very enjoyable book! It's amazing how devoted Morris was to Joe D. What a great friendship they shared. I admired both men in reading about it. And what a pro Joe D. was! I liked how he always insisted on looking his best and would not sign those bats!! He was tough and men today just aren't as strong as the great Dimaggio was! He's such a legend and his 56 game hitting streak amazes me every time I read about it. I can't imagine anyone being good enough to break his record. He was an amazing man and a real class act. Great book!
- Had I read the readers' reviews of this book prior to reading the book itself, I might have passed it up and missed out on an exceptionally well-done, thoughtful and moving account of Joe DiMaggio's life (particurly the later years). Engelberg's biography of Joe is, of course (since he is telling the story of a man he knew intimately and worked with for over 25 years) also a look at the relationship between the two men; Sports Icon and shrewd businessman/lawyer/confidant. Too many of the little details about Joe ring true for me to doubt that the overall tenor of this book is not on the mark. I read this with a dual interest (being a long time Marilyn Monroe fan, as well as a fan of the Yankee Clipper), and the relationship between the two, which Engelberg recounts based on his own conversations and knowledge, rings true. Engelberg makes no attempt to hide his disdain of Joe's brother, Dom, nor of a few other folks that apparently there were conflicts with, particulary concerning memorabilia and what happened to Joe's World Series rings. This is no way detracted from the story itself. Setting the Record Straight takes on the task of doing that, at least from the viewpoint of someone who appears to have been a dear friend of DiMaggio's. While I am sure there are other agendas out there, particularly in the readers review section, those issues are beyond the scope of the book itself.
I found this moving, sad at times, and altogether a sensitive and sympathetic view of Engelberg's hero, who became his friend as well. Other books may be better for biographic details, particularly of Joe D's playing years, but this book makes an effort to maintain the dignity that DiMaggio displayed his entire life, and rebuts and/or clarifies some incidents that were reported in other biographies.
- After knowing little of the Dimaggio, Cramer, Engelberg situation this book sheds little light on who actually was looking out for Joe. Engelberg portrays himself as a Joe D worshipper in most unbelievable ways. He details how he helped Joe make millions of dollars without any compensation while Joe was alive. Basically the book is Engelberg's long winded attempt to clear his name when, in doing so, the book heightens suspicions of Engelberg. In my humble opinion, Engelberg and Cramer were both out to take advantage of Joe and some claims made in each book are likely valid. I enjoyed reading the book up to 80 pages, after which the book goes on to glorify Engelberg to ad nauseam.
- Just an FYI - DO NOT buy this book if you are concerned about wasting your money. This book was written for one purpose ONLY - to set the record straight about Mr. Engelberg himself and to make more profit off the DiMaggio name.
Remember, this book was written by the very man who, according to MULTIPLE news reports, literally ripped the World Series ring off of Joe D's finger immediately after the legend himself passed away. To top that off, this same man, who claims to have been Joe's closest "friend" and confidant, has been continuously investigated by the FBI for defrauding Joe during his lifetime, and for defrauding his estate after his death. Don't believe me? Do the research online...
The intentions are not to "set the record straight" but instead to for the author to defend himself against claims made against him (some verifiably true) about HIS true intentions behind his relationship with Joltin' Joe.
The author of this book is in fact the executor of Joe's estate. His sole purpose is to make as much money off of the DiMaggio name as possible. Greedy and dishonest as he is, please don't help add to his fortune by purchasing the book. If you REALLY want to read it, even out of curiousity, buy it off of eBay or find a friend who can lend it to you.
And if you are a true fan of Joltin' Joe, I don't recommend you read the book at all. Misrepresentations and lies about one of baseball's legends are all you will find. Joe himself is tossing in his grave at the thought of this book having been published in the first place!
