2 comments about A Farm Country Christmas.

  1. Thank you for a wonderful book. All as advertised with timely shipping.

  2. A wonderful find for country aficionados and for those who relish the sentimentality of Christmas. The writing is excellent and the illustrations picture perfect. The collection of essays and other contributions from the likes of L.M Montgomery (of "Anne of Green Gables" fame), Laura Ingalls Wilder and Bob Artley set the perfect tone. The many beautiful photographs and folk paintings of rural winter scenes in addition to old photographs of farmhouse Christmas pasts likewise evoke just the right mood for the holiday season. This book is for anyone who lives in the country, would like to live in the country and who loves Christmas.

4 comments about A Life With Dogs.

  1. This heart-warming work is all a book of doggy stories should be!!! Sometimes I laughed, sometimes I cried, but was always moved to thought by his deep insights into the canine mind. His liberal philosophies and mystical religious tastes aside, this book should warm the soul of all who have ever owned a mutt.

  2. Having seldom been without a dog in our own lives, my husband and I were recalling the antics of many of our dogs from the book's beginning to end. This fun heartwarming book from a true dog lover, richly enhanced by the artwork of Linda Welsch, is one of those that is practically impossible to put down until it is finished. We have enjoyed Mr. Welsch's writings for many years and are very proud to add this book to our long shelf of other dog books.

  3. As the official representative of Richard Lee Anderson, Jr...[the California Whiskey Heeler of Page 211] AND recipient of Roger's forgiveness...I have to tell you, after reading this book you'll probably want to trade your cat in on a dog, head to your Humane Society for more dogs or adopt your first.
Dogs are good for your soul, Roger's books are great reading and Linda Welsch's illustrations are heart warming to behold.

  4. There are a lot of books on dogs out there. Some are worthless, some are truely useful and meaningful (like Suzanne Clothier's 'Bones Would Rain From The Sky').
This book is just completely enjoyable. You get a genuine feel for Mr. Welsch's love and regard for dogs, and for their love and regard for us. The frequency of laughs is no small benefit either.

5 comments about Bud Hastin's Avon Collector's Encyclopedia: The Official Guide for Avon Bottle and Cpc Collectors (Bud Hastins Avon Collectors Encyclopedia, 16th ed).

  1. I bought this book for several different reasons but mainly for Avon beer steins...most of which my husband has...and didn't get enough information from this book to really be able to price even one out of all that he has...My husband and I both agree that this book is short on information, details, and inventory. Really wish that I had not bought the book.

  2. I just received this book and was very disappointed.I have an older avon book with color pages and handy guide. This book had unclear, black and white pictures.Hard to use.I definately would not recommend this book for a collector.

  3. I was under the impression that the book had more of a variety of "collectibles" than shown. I have several items from the 60's to the late 80's that I could not find. The collectible I was most interested in finding was a set of 4 Birds from 1986. All 4 are stamped except one--the owl--does not have the year on the base.

  4. This book proved very helpful to me, but, there were some Avon items I have that I believe should have been in the book (alongside similar items), but, were not. I would suggest people buy this book if they have Avon items, but, remember that the book is not inclusive.

  5. This is a great book for collectors of AVON and Cape Cod Products. Recently used it to price a few items for sell on eBay.com. Only thing that would make the book better is if it where to contain color photos, rther than the black and white ones.

3 comments about Cowgirls: Early Images And Collectibles (Schiffer Book for Collectors).

  1. As the author of "The Cowgirl's Cookbook",( available on Amazon) I tip my Stetson to the author of this informative and interesting book. I recommend it to anyone who wants to know more about the amazing women who rode broncs to the whistle before they got the vote.

  2. GREAT BOOK FOR COLLECTORS, MANY GREAT PICTURES AS WELL AS INFORMATION. I HAVE 1ST EDITION AND UPGRADED TO NEW EDITION. OUTSTANDING BOOK

  3. As a historian and teacher, I often find original articles and photographs as the best teaching aids possible. Although traveling photographers often staged photos, they also used items of clothing and props associated with the times, thus providing a visual study of articles. Oral history is also at times incorrect since memories & viewpoints often aren't completely correct. But, once again the visual item helps determining truth from fiction. This book is an excellect and colorfull collection of garments, photos, postcards, etc. spanding many years of the cowgirl. Items are stated to be unknown if the author is in question of its actual origin. The photos are very clear and are an easy study and the information is very informative.

2 comments about Interviews with Icons.

  1. "Icons" is the real thing. It is filled with lively interviews of the people who helped make the Sixties such a driving force in American culture for years to come. This is one of those books that grows more relavent with age. Reading through the inerviews we are reminded that the Sixties were more than sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll. They also were a time when people felt compelled to try new things; search for new answers; find a new paradigm for living. The old answers weren't working. Much like today, rumbles were beginning to be heard: This is not the dream we have for ourselves and our country. Reading this book is a chance to look back and see how much the Sixties did matter and what changes those years made and keep on making in our lives today. To wit: The World Wide Web and living green. Back to the Earth movement? We're still on our way. Experience the first seeds in "Icons."

  2. Interviews with Icons-Flashing on the Sixties allowed me to find out the intimate thoughts of the people interviewed. I knew that Dennis Hopper was such an accomplished photographer but didn't know that he went on the Selma, Alabama civil rights march. Ginsberg is such an insightful and peaceful person. Leary was a real card, a comedian for sure and Viola Spolin had her fingers on the pulse of what really made the sixties click. The Vietnam vet spoke for all the casualties of that war. I cried when I read what he said. Peter Coyote is so famous now and he can thank Flashing on The Sixties for allowing him to speak out about his peers and their role in changing the face of America. I could go on forever but pick up a copy and see for yourself and if you are studying the sixties, it is a must.

5 comments about The Big Book of John Deere Tractors: The Complete Model-By-Model Encyclopedia, Plus Classic Toys, Brochures, and Collectibles (John Deere).

  1. This book was purchased as a present for a relative that owns many John Deere tractors, old and new. He has told us thank you for this gift more than any other gift we have ever given him...so, with that being said, it must be a good book!!

  2. The big book of john deere tractors has a bunch of different types of tractors in all kinds of different styles. John deere tractors are very interesting.
I really like reading about tractors they are very interesting to learn about. It seems like every time I read about a tractor I learn a new fact. One fact that I really like that it tells the exact year that they were made. As you go along you find new ways to work on older John deere tractors.

I really liked this book because I like learning new things about tractors. I like looking and reading these books because you can find tractors that you may own yourself. It was very interesting to know all those facts.

Nothing was very confusing about this book I really enjoyed this book. There was only one confusing thing it was the diagrams. Other tan that there was nothing confusing about this book.

  3. I purchased this for my dad for Christmas and he loved it!

  4. Hi I received my book in good condition. I was very pleased with your company. I will shop with you again. I know my dad will be happy with his Christmas gift. Do you sell glass lamp globes. I have a pink lamp with only the bottom half. I am looking for the top. It is pink with roses and a small covered wagon with a couple of stands of wheat around it. It is raised design that you have to look close to see.

    Thanks
    Joan

  5. then this is the book for you. I bought it as a gift for a knowledgable friend and he was in raptures. I now know more about John Deere tractors than I ever dreamed it was possible to know! This book covers every John Deere tractor ever made and covers them in great detail. The photos and vintage posters add to the appeal of this tractor encyclopedia.

4 comments about More Cowboy Movie Posters (The Illustrated History of Movies Through Posters, Vol 6).

  1. Excellent book for the western enthusiast. was a little disappointed that posters were not full page but guess I'm being a bit picky. No text apart from the introduction, many memories came flooding back of favourites such as Charles Starrett, Allan Lane, Roy Rogers, Gene Autry etc.
These books will end up collectors items so strike while the iron is hot.

  2. More Cowboy Movie Posters is a fabulous art book and truly invaluable, offering the highest quality images from good and bad westerns. As someone who collects western posters, I have used this book as an important aid to purchasing posters illustrated within. Without such a quality reference I would have needed to peruse a stack of catalogs to find the same amount of images. For the non collector movie buff, the book is equally a delight and tremendous value at the low price.

  3. This review can easily apply to any of the books in the Bruce Hershenson edited series of film poster history. Hershenson rightly treats film graphics not just as pop culture artifacts but true works of art. His books are filled with a curator's eye for superior choice and reproduction, each poster in striking color and with a clarity of printing that rivals most any coffee table art book. Somewhere between advertising and illustration, film posters, like book jackets and record covers, inhabit that imaginative and atmospheric zone where one art reflects another. It's not just the history of film or the history of film design, it's a history of twentieth century Saturday afternoons and Saturday nights. How often we would go into the dark theatre armed only with the ideas and ideals of the posters outside, and then return to them afterward, perhaps with nodding affirmation or smirking disillusionment, but still a vision of what could be. This series of books should be subtitiled: THE FINE ART OF ANTICIPATION,for no matter if expectation was filled or emptied by the films behind them, their posters kept on shining.

  4. All the great heroes of Hollywood westerns are represented in a book that's a delight to flip through. It's packed with the colorful, dramatic, enticing art that made movie posters even more appealing than the movies, themselves.
