3 comments about This Old Farm: A Treasury of Family Farm Memories.
- IT WAS VERY WELL WRITTEN AND THE PICTURES ARE FANTASTIC. IT BROUGHT BACK GREAT MEMORIES AS I TOO OWNED A FARM, IN INDIANA. I AM ON MY WAY TO OWNING A RANCH, SOON, I HOPE AND READING THIS BOOK I LAUGHED AT THE ANTICS OF KIDS AND ANIMALS. I DON'T THINK FARMERS, OTHER THEN THE AMISH WOULD KNOW HOW TO DO ANYTHING IN THOSE PICTURES TODAY HAHAHAH. EVERYTHING WAS DONE BY ANIMAL OR BY HAND. THE PICTURES AND WORDING ARE JUST GREAT. I THINK IT IS A WONDERFUL READ ESPECIALLY SOMEONE WHO LIVED AND WORKED BACK THEN ON THEIR FARM
- I loved the book, "This Old Farm". The memories it brought back to me are some that I had forgotten for many years. The writers of "This Old Farm" knew exactly what they were talking about. I could smell the odors, see the colors, feel the grass, hear the sputter of the tractors and machines. It brought tears to my eyes as it brought back memories of my life on a farm while I was growing up.
- The pictures alone make this book a "must have" for anyone who grew up on a farm. It brings back warm fuzzy memories.

5 comments about It's a Wonderful Christmas: The Best of the Holidays 1940-1965.
- I bought this book for my mom (81 years old), and it brought back amazing memories for her from her teenage years through the first 20 years of her marriage. The package of ornaments shown on page 11 is the identical one my parents had bought (which we still have - most of them, anyway!). She (and I) enjoyed it so much, I also got copies for my aunt and a family friend of the same age as my mom. They both loved the book, and talked of all the memories it brought back for them, as well. It's a fun book that wil bring back memories for anyone who lived through those years.
- I bought this book last year and again this year sat down to enjoy the wonderful photos. It brought back wonderful memories of a time before consumer advocacy when we used lead and fiber glass all over our homes, and especially during the holidays when we pulled out the painted ornaments (and ashtrays and candy dishes and ceramic figurines of Santa and the Baby Jesus) and angel hair for the tree. I can still feel the itching as I write this :-)
I highly recommend this book for anyone who remembers Christmas anywhere between 1940 and 1965. It brought back some lovely memories (aside from the itching).
- This is a great book!! The stories are a wonderful collection for anyone who was a child OR adult during this time frame. If not read it anyway, it's very enjoyable to read. I took this book on a flight to Denver and had many people as me where I got it.
- This book brings back memories of Christmas past. It is informative and entertaining. I gave this as a gift to four different people and got a copy for myself.
- This book was an incredible walk down Memory Lane! I couldn't put it down. For all those reminiscing and hungry for "how it used to be" I highly recommend this book!

5 comments about Mountain Dew: Hillbilly Collectables: A History of Mt. Dew through Advertising.
- I should state at the beginning that while I'm a collector, I'm not a collector of Mountain Dew or of any other bottled drink or its memorabilia.
My interest in D. Bridgforth's excellent book is twofold: my former addiction to another of Johnson City's early drinks created by the sage hillbillies at Tri-City Bottling Co. That drink is called Dr. Enuf and is advertised as 'the staff of life'. The truth in that claim is the fact that one bottle was never enuf.
This potion is mentioned in several publications, ie, Moon Handbooks Tennessee by Jeff Bradley; Southern Food and Cornbread Nation, two books by John Edgerton et. al.; Southern Belly by John T. Edge, et.al. and Folk Medicine in Southern Appalachia by Anthony Cavender.
As evidenced by these fine regional titles, the history rich Tri-City BC and the Tennessee Bridgforths with their Mountain Dews and Dr. Enufs are just a stump-jump from stills and medicine shows and the rest of us are the better for it.
My other interest in this book was Bridgforth's treatment of a vast inventory of patented/copywrited items into a comprehensible collection; that is, his method for transforming what could have been a meaningless hoard of artifacts into a systematic ordering of the history and patronage of a uniquely American product.
An unexpected and pleasant gift of the book were the memories that I didn't know I had, that were triggered by the bottle photos, the jingles, the signs and ads. I had forgotten that Mountain Dew and I grew up together and share a history.
As a model for Collectibles books, or better yet, for museums in print, this is one of the finest I've seen. The author has managed to order his subject without making it lifeless. Not really surprising given that Bill Bridgforth gave us the drink and his son gave us this tribute to his father's creation. My thanks to both.
- This was the best book I have ever read! It changed my whole outlook on things!
I give this book 5 Stars plus more

- Great info!! Very through!!! We have needed a book like this for years now!! This is awesome!! THANKS
- Finally, a guide for Mountain Dew collectors. This book is awesome !!!!
It has high quality pictures of each item along with a detail description and pricing of each one; There must be a thousand pictures and while I wish they were in color, the pictures are still very sharp with excellent details. Truly an Encyclopedia that every collector should have. It even has a brief description of how Mountain Dew was invented (I never knew that !!).
Here it what is included (600 Pages):
1) A short history of the hillbilly logo
2) The history of the soft drink itself
3) Radio Ads (37 listed)
4) TV Ads (12 listed)
5) Books & Printed Material (11 listed)
6) Drink Cartons & Crates (34 listed)
7) Cans & Bottle Crowns (23 listed)
8) Print Ads & Documents (16 listed)
9) Merchandise (31 listed)
10) Point of Purchase Items (29 listed)
11) Production Items (13 listed)
12) Signs (61 listed)
13) Wearables (27 listed)
14) Fantasy Items (66 listed)
The book also discusses fakes and reproduction along with the originals. A book like this on Mountain Dew has been long awaited and I'm glad to see it is finally here !!! I strongly recommend it to anyone that collects Mountain Dew or wants to know something about the soft drink.
Brian

5 comments about Roller Coasters (Enthusiast Color).
- This book might have been good when it came out, but now is just outdated. Some of its facts are wrong, and the writing is somewhat crude for enthusiasts. The pictures are wonderful though.
- This book is one of the worst about roller coasters I've ever seen. It is grossly misinformed when it comes to many rides and only has closed circuit rides. That leaves out Boomerangs and Shuttle Loops etc. Do no buy this book!
- This coaster book is really great it has dozens of pictures you can't stop looking at, A great introduction and loads of information, Top 20 coasters, coaster glossary plus info on coaster technology. I love this book and i can't stop reading enough. You can flip through the pages for hours just staring at the amazing pictures and imformation the author added to this book. You must get this book! A must-read!
- This book is a nice catalog of coasters, but little else. Not very substantive. Rutherford's later book, The American Roller Coaster is a much better value.

1 comments about Value Guide To Gas Station Memorabilia (Value Guide to Gas Station Memorabilia).
- B. J. Summers and Wayne Priddy's Value Guide To Gas Station Memorabilia appears in its updated second edition to provide the latest values to signs, cans, maps and more from vintage gas station days. Bright medium-sized color photos throughout compliment chapters conveniently organized by memorabilia type - signs, containers, thermometers, even pumps and globes - to make for quick, easy browsing and reference.

5 comments about Backroads of Colorado (Backroads of ...).
- Lacks an overview map showing the routes in relation to the state. Even with the poor Colorado map towards the front it's difficult to locate the routes. Dangerously out of date. For example, Rollins pass is impassible and has been so for years since the collapse of the Needle's Eye Tunnel. It's a nice drive nonetheless, but you're coming up from the west to the tunnel or the east to the tunnel and you're not making over the top from either direction. I don't mean challenging or not recommended, but literally impassible. The book leads you to believe you can get from Nederland to Winter Park, but that's wasn't going to happen even when this book was last printed. Can't vouch for all the other roads, but confirm before attempting them.
- I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to experience the thrill of finding those lesser-known, out-of-the way, and ultimately unforgettable scenic areas of Colorado. Illustrated with magnificent photographs, this is a guide intended to put you on the right track toward creating a unique adventure of your own. Unlike other travel books, this is not a step-by-step slog through all the tourist traps in Colorado. The best part about this book is that it captures the character of a given area, gives you enough information to pique your curiosity, helps you find your way there, and leaves the rest of the exploration up to you.
In addition to maps, illustrations, and a general guide about each area, the book also contains many "Colorado Sketches", brief vignettes about historical characters and events which are not only entertaining to read, but help capture the flavor of the history and culture that make up this great state of ours. Overall, it's not only a great guide, but a good read as well. Buy one for your coffee table, and another to keep in your glove box!
- Well written and easy to follow. We used the guide during our trips to the hidden places in Colorado and found it to be easy to follow without being overly explicit with too many details. Lived in Colorado for several years and this was our weekend guide when we wanted to get away from the front range crowds.
- Numerous beautiful photos. Somewhat short as far as the text and descriptions are concerned, but overall a good guide for exploring. This book won't be a "travel video" for those who don't want to go exploring. It gives you enough to want to drive the backroads and see everything for yourself.
- Would definately have preferred more specifics about each trip. The pictures were beautiful, however and aided in my decision on which trip to start with. (have chosen the Flat Tops, slated for next August.) I think the idea for this book was great, but would have preferred additional information. Lists are always good. What to bring, when to go, how long to stay. Some of the trips included this info, but not all of them. For those of us amateurs unskilled in the art of backroading, this would be useful information to have.

5 comments about Girl Scout Collectors' Guide: A History of Uniforms, Insignia, Publications, And Memorabilia.
- Excellent source book for anyone researching Girl Scout information and history. Fun to just "dip into" and remember the wholesome fun of being a Brownie or Girl Scout.
- interesting book. i found most of the items i was searching for in the book.
- Long awaited update on 1st edition. I could find very few inaccuracies
- Please check this book out at a library or local Girl Scout Council before buying! I was disappointed because I have been searching for quite some time for information regarding four Brownie badges that I earned in the 1970s, but can't remember what they were for or how I earned them. Although this book seems well-researched and is full of interesting and little-known facts, the information I seek was not included in this book or its predecessor. Since these badges were earned within the last 35 years, I was disappointed to find no mention of them, especially when the book includes such a wealth of information regarding previous decades.
- This is an amazing collection of information on all things about the girl scouting organization with information of program, evolution of girl scouting, uniforms, badges, age level and has information on other items used by girl scouts . I have found it very helpful in compliling my collection, which is available at www.sparklesgarden.com/patchtrading.html
Thank you.

1 comments about Antique Advertising: Country Store Signs And Products (Schiffer Book for Collectors).
- I know, I know, this book is made for collectors and these things are usually expensive but i was expecting something much better. It's just a nice book with some examples of old-time advertising, but, where are the descriptions?? You can hardly see any. I'm disappointed cos it's definitely too expensive for what it shows...
