Stealing Books-A Bookscout's Guide To Book Collecting
Chapter 8 - A Day In The Life Of A Bookscout (continued)
10:50am: I am at the Summerlin Library at 1771 Inner Circle Drive. Helen again is waiting in the car. The bookstore is a little alcove they call Words To Go Buy. I found a paperback copy of a book titled The Mental Athlete which I decided to buy for my collection. I didn't find anything else that interested me among the sports books. I found a first edition of an early Martha Grimes book titled The Dirty Duck, which was in good condition other than the front free end page was removed. It wasn't listed in my price guide, but I decided to take a chance. I also found an old copy of 1984 by George Orwell. It was in poor condition, lacking a dust jacket, and was also probably ex-library. There was not a number line, or other printing information on the copyright page, on the copyright date of 1949, and published by Harcourt Brace. It is possibly a book club edition, but not sure. I decide to pass on it. They also have a large selection of large print ex-library books. If I lived in Las Vegas, I would probably be buying up tons of these large print books and listing them on Amazon.com marketplace. The two books cost me a total of $1.25.
11:15am: I am at the Rainbow Library. Helen is in the car. I didn't find any books that interested me. I did talk to the lady who stocks the books. I asked her about any martial arts books, but she said they didn't have any and not much in the way sports books in general. She did tell me about a sale they have at the central library warehouse twice a month. The sales are on the second Sunday of the month and the forth Wednesday of the month.
11:40am: I am at Book Lovers User Books on Rainbow blvd. Helen actually came into the store with me to look at books. They have a few martial arts books, but they were priced higher than what I can get them for online. The majority of the fiction books are pocket size paperback books. I scanned the small selection of hard covers, but nothing drew my attention.
11:50am: After a bit of searching around a strip mall, I found Comic Oasis at 3121 North Rainbow Blvd was in a separate building out on the parking lot next to a Radio Shack. As I thought, a quick glance inside confirmed that the store is dedicated to comic books, and related materials. But it was listed under used books, so I had to check.
12:00pm: Following the route in the GPS, it wanted me to turn onto an onramp that is currently closed for construction. We had to make our way around to get back on route.
